This former Victorian sporting lodge is set in the village of Tongue in the North Highlands. Overlooking the beautiful Kyle of Tongue, Ben Loyal, Ben Hope and the ruin of Castle Varrich, it offers luxurious rooms, a cosy bar and restaurant and traditional Scottish breakfasts. Rooms at the Tongue Hotel are individually designed with period features such as wood panelling, open fires and antique furniture. Each includes a decanter of sherry, sweets, as well as a TV, tea and coffee making facilities and Gilchrist and Soames toiletries. The Tongue serves an extensive breakfast menu. Porridge, fruit, cereals and yoghurts are followed by a choice of cooked Scottish breakfasts. Ingredients are locally sourced and guests can enjoy snacks and bar meals or more formal meals in the dining room, served with varied whisky and wine menus. The area is ideal for hiking, angling and climbing in the nearby Loch Fleet and Knockan Crag National Nature Reserves. Ben Loyal, the Queen of Scottish mountains is reached from Tongue Village, and the UK's most northerly Munro, Ben Hope is within 30 minutes’ drive. Tongue also marks the end of the long distance walk The Sutherland Way. This northerly coastline boasts fine sandy beaches including Coldbackie, Talmine, Achininver and Torrisdale Bay.

There are not many places to choose from to stay when yo get round that northern extreme of Scotland, but the Tongue Hotel doesn't exploit, and is a very good stay and value for money. A room of great comfort. with a welcoming caraffe of sherry. Comfortable bar and good food in the efficient but relaxed restaurant. The staff very welcoming. Hotel only takes cash ,but there is a cash machine in the hotel.
kaikki arvostelut » The most luxurious, beautiful room I have ever stayed in. Furniture coverings, rugs and window treatments were all made of beautiful Scottish wool. Elegant and warm. Scenery from window was astonishing. Loved the decanter of sherry to welcome us to our room, and the wee dram of Scotch offered at breakfast to give pep to your porridge. The hotel is absolutely exceptional!! Photos on the websites do not show how lovely it is! We were treated with complimentary cherry, the room looked super nice and cozy, the bathroom is clean and comfortable. There is nothing more to dream about for perfect stay in the remote area in Scotland, highly recommend to everyone!. We liked the counrty lodge feel to the Tongue Hotel. Our room was warm and had many extra little luxury touches. Robes, sherry, luxury toilettries, luxury en-suite. Highland decor throughout the hotel. The position in the centre of the area of Northern Coast of Scotland; the atmosphere of the building; the view from our room; the food of the restaurant; the free and speed wifi; the cosy lounge. Stunning location. Comfortable, large and warm room. Nice bar and pool room. The hotel made a real effort to meet our dietary requirements (not 100% successful but most hotels won't even try!). The warm welcome by the proprietor, large well appointed and well furnished bedroom, a decanter of sherry in the room and a nice view from the window. The dinner was excellent. Friendly, helpful staff in a lovely building in a good location. You pay a little more than some but it is worth the money. The couple who run it are friendly and welcoming. Staff were excellent, room clean and comfortable and the food was delicious. The attention to detail make this hotel a must for all touring the highlands of Scotland. This hotel is an absolute gem in the Scottish Highlands. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A friendly country hotel with clean comfortable rooms and a warm inviting feeling throughout. The location was superb as was the food and service. Room was comfortable and well priced. Some lacks of the building: lightening of the bathroom; smell of old carpets; old furniture; wall sockets at the bottom of the wall, not ideal for hair dryers; curtains of the shower not adequate. The breakfast was disappointing, something had gone wrong resulting in slow service and food that had been kept hot for too long and was too hard to eat. nothing. Cover up when you go out midges. 1 The minute bathroom. 2 The food was only middling. Breakfast was spoilt by the use of tinned fruit. Dinner was spoilt by being over fussy , e.g. the scallops were good but had been overtreated with confusing tastes. The focus of good scallops should be good scallops without too much treatment. Nothing. Car parking a little difficult but plenty nearby. Nothing. Dining was not the best. Waitress wasn't the most hospitable. bath room could be better, although it was just about clean. cold bathroom. We were asked to make choice of breakfast for next day. We made the choice. The next day we arrived for breakfast at 8.30. At 9.15 we were served with porridge. At 9.30, after several urgencies we got the English breakfast, which was rather cold and not really filling. Tip for next customers: demand breakfast from the begining :-). All was excellent. The upholstery in the dining room chairs was like a rock. A source of amusement among us. The seat covers could be stuffed with something a little cushier.But the food was great. No lift. prices of evening meals a bit expensive for us.
