  I'd never stayed at The Athenaeum before but I will be back. Although I booked a standard double at a very deep discounted rate (typically this means getting the box room next to the staff quarters), I was given an apartment room which was really a suite.   Very friendly staff! Typical English style. Home away from home feel. Superb location in the heart of Mayfair. Harrods, Oxford street, Picadilly circus,... are all within easy walking distance.
