In the heart of the charming market town of Dereham, this handsome Queen Anne property offers en suite rooms, free parking and generous breakfasts. Reception is open 24 hours daily.
Hill House was once the home of a local Norfolk dignitary and parts of the building date back to the 1600s. Sympathetically restored and extended, Hill House was reopened as a hotel in April 2006. Today, it combines original charm and character with modern comforts and facilities.
All of the bright, airy rooms have plasma flat-screen TVs, telephones, tea/coffee, hairdryers and private bathrooms with baths or showers.
Guests can enjoy a drink in the comfortable lounge with its open fireplace, downstairs in the cellar wine bar with its extensive wine list or outside on the beautifully lit patio area.
Hill House is located in the centre of East Dereham, just metres from a choice of shops, restaurants and pubs. Norwich can be reached in 30 minutes by car.

This is a great place to stay. The rooms within the main building are superb. The staff are efficient and friendly.Staff were helpful, room was clean, parking was easy, good location. Good size room, good breakfast, helpful staff. Not the Ritz but the Hill House is a far higher standard than one would expect. Amazing value for money and the breakfast is well worth paying for. Considering the rediculously low price quoted, I called the hotel prior to our visit. I am delighted to confirm they were as charming as the reviews have confirmed. Our stay was a stop over ready to visit the UEA where our son is likely to study. With lots to consider it is great to think we have already sorted a good place to stay in the future. The room was very comfortable and a good size. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. The breakfast had a good variation not just the usual cooked breakfast. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were great!. I thought the rooms were extremely nice for the money. The staff were friendly. Central location and characterful old building,. The Value for mOnay and the central location. Convenience and friendliness of staff. this is our 3rd time.....and like the hotel very much...very clean and tidy...staff helpful too...rooms nice...and place central. close to all amenities, much quieter room than previous visit, comfy bed. Staff very helpful and cheerful, always willing to help. the confort and the helpful staff. Good spacious room. WE BOOKED THE HOTEL BASED ON THE FACT THAT IT STATED ON THE WEBSITE THAT THERE WAS AN ALL DAY CARVERY. SEE BELOW. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE AND WE HAD TO TRAVEL TO NORWICH TO FIND A RESTAURANT.
NOT SUFFICIENT ROOM IN THE CAR PARK AND ONE OR TWO OTHER COMPLAINTS BUT BASICALLY AN OKAY HOTEL TO STAY FOR ONE NIGHT.Staff happily changed us to a different room when we told them that we were cold in the room we had been given. There was also a lovely carvery and yummy vegetarian risotto lunch avaliable when we arrived at 2pm. as a regular resident it has all i need for a short work trip.relaxed friendly atmosphere. the space in the accomodation. Room was nicely decorated and clean.cleaniness, value for money. The staff was very friendly and helpfull and the room was nice. The friendliness of staff and their willingness to please. Location and price. Clean and tidy. The receptionist was lovely and very helpful, slightly disapointed no sunday paper delivered although we did order one, this was our 2nd stay maybe next time would look elsewhere???. It was a reasonably comfortable and central hotel in the town. The staff was informal and friendly . coffeeand tea facillities in the room. location. Nice split-level room well appointed. Dinner just down the hall. Friendly staff.not very much - staff Ok and room Ok. Apart from that see below.. Price / General facilities ok. The food was excelent. Pleasant and helpful young lady on front desk who offered much assistance. The room was nice and large and comfortable. Nice big room, old fashioned but clean. The location was good for us, easy parking.Guest rooms were comfortable, newly refurbished with good linen and towels.Has the potential to be a lovely hotel with good Chef/ Manager. When the lock jammed on my bedroom door, the receptionist was very prompt in coming to let me out and advising me how to avoid the problem in future.I ended up in a large room, but only after problems with my reservation and first room. the walls are paper thin and we heard everything the cleaners said whilst they were outside our bedroom door, for 20 mins !! not so bad normally but when you'd only been asleep for 3 hours i wasn't impressed. Menu choice limited. Car parking is a bit of a lottery but ok if arriving early enough. Bathroom lighting, tile floor. No instructions on heating control - we did work it out and small towels. No hanging space for clothes in the room!. The noise from the ventilation system outside the window. Lack of storage space when staying for week or longer, no lift available.stayed before, coming back must i8ndicate that we like the hotel and its facilities and friendlyness. Food & Drink
The hotel has an all-day carvery and bar meals are served 7 days a week. The carvery offers a choice of 6 starters. Then, for a main course, you can choose from a selection of meats, four types of vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. The dessert cabinet has a range of delicious puddings to end your meal. Breakfast times: Monday to Friday from 07:00 - 09:30. Saturday and Sunday from 07:30 - 10:30.The breakfast was advertised as being between 7.30-10.30, but when we arrived at 10am to have it, we were told that all the things had just been put away as they didnt know anyone else wanted breakfast! It wasnt a requirement that you had to tell them in advance, so we didnt expect them to know we wanted breakfast, but we did expect it to be out and avaliable still at 10am!. described as luxury attic suite. although nice wasnt exactly luxurious. would like decaff tea and coffee in room as well. The room was very cold, and not very well cleaned. The cleanliness was poor and when I requested if the cleaner could havea go around the bathroom for us whilst we were out nothing was done andit looked the same on our return. Reception was disorganised. I booked a superior double room for £55. The receptionist wanted me to pay £80 and I refused. He then set about searching the computer I feel for a room more suited to my price than my contract. I was sent first to Room 1 which I then refused as it had not been clenaed and had soiled sheets. I never got room 2 which was my allotted room. Finally I got a room smaller tha. Breakfast was not included in the room rate, which is fine, but the price of the breakfast if you wanted it was poor value. The room was fairly clean but some things were missing, e.g. light bulbs in the bathroom, waste bin liner (making the bin useable) and the bathroom was not sparklingly clean - although it was hard to see in the dim light!. parking and accsess to the hotel. staff were inexperienced. Nice room but it was badly serviced. Not cleaned at all one day!. It seems to be going through some kind of crisis - public areas dusty and uncared for and therefore unused, dining room like a canteen with formica tables and filthy carpet. First floor windows obscured by banner offering cheap drinks. Hotel not really recognisable as the one on the web site. Room only serviced first day and not second. No soap in bathroom - when I asked for some was told that they had none and I would have to use sachets of shower gel - there was a supermarket within 50 yards..!! Toilet was dirty. Breakfast times shown as 07.00 - 09.30 - I arrived in dining room @ 07.10 - served coffee at 07.15 but, no crockery, teaspoons or sugar on table - no food ready until 07.25. the room could have been cleaner and the choice of alcoholic drinks was limited due to, we were told ' the locals liked the cheap offer drinks and that an order had not been placed. Upon arrival, despite having rang in advance, they had no record of our booking. The room allocated was unkempt and had not been cleaned from the previous occupier. Upon moving rooms this too was dirty. The third room allocated was fine but involved a great deal of undue stress. We were only in the area to meet our sons body after his sudden death overseas of which the hotel were aware. The toilet had not been cleaned upon our arrival, the cloth covering the vanity was very dirty. Two inch high plinth/step between bathroom and bedroom that we kepttripping over - with no warning sign. No toilet roll (asked twice) anddrain problem that evening meant no toilet either. Following morningbreakfast took nearly an hour to arrive and was missing sausage andblack pudding, with no comment or apology until we queried. We got thebreakfast gratis, but only because we complained. No internet access - they ordered new adapters but still only 2 for the whole hotel. Dinner poor - crvery was 2 joints of meat both almost finished by 7. Be sure to take a coin to toss for the single comfy chair!. The service was terrible. Our room had not been vacuumed or dusted on arrival. For 2 days we had no service/cleaning of our room at all. When we mentioned this to the reception staff after the 1st day they didn't seem surprised or to care. We ate breakfast in the hotel on the 1st morning but the service and food was so bad we ate in a cafe in town for the rest of the week. Carpets need replacing.Asked for payment for six nights on arrival; in the end, told I could pay daily. Kept awake much of night by banging doors and talking outside room. No drawers or cupboards, just a small alcove with a rail - not even anywhere to hang bath towels. Although a double room, nowhere to sit except one wobbly stool. Inadequate parking - had to use public CP. Breakfast limited and poorly presented. The hotel had the wrong dates for my reservation (luckily I had printed out my confirmation from the website); my room had not been cleaned before arrival and only once during a six night stay.1) During our stay the room was not serviced. 2) There was interference to the TV picture making it unwatchable! 3) No lemon in the hotel for drinks on Friday night and by Saturday night the staff had not managed to remedy the situation. 4) The breakfast toaster did not work Saturday morning and strangely enough the same toaster did not work on Sunday morning. 5) No marmalade. 6) Rude staff.
