very helpful manager and staff... nice position only 30 mins walk into Bridgwater.... rooms warm n cosy....evening meal choice very good and nicely cooked. I liked the location, the friendly atmosphere, the clean and comfortable room, as I was a woman traveling alone for the first time I felt safe. The staff were friendly and welcoming, beds were comfortable, view from our room was lovely. Perfect if you wanted peace and quiet.

Friendly and helpful reception staff had booked single but was upgraded to double. Bed very comfy. honestly presented, limited in some areas, but what was offered was well done. The location was good for us as we were on our way to catch a ferry at Plymouth, the food was good, Dan the barman was great and couldn't do enough for us. The surroundings are lovely and a walk along the canal is a must. Receptionist was pleasant despite me having to chase problems. Bed was comfortable. Room was quiet. Shower was hot. I was the only occupant and glad I did not book breakfast. Location was good. Food very good. Bar was quite good. Friendly staff. Not much - very basic accommodation/ meals etc. Being on the Canal side. Not much. Leaving. Nothing. hard to find.... décor a bit tired ....breakfast was only a limited choice...( to be expected to some degree at low tourism times). Difficult to find, Landlord kindly talked us in as SatNav couldn't find it. Shower plug of Room 3 gurgled when water running down wash hand basin plug hole (i.e when cleaning teeth!)...suggests poor drainage/blockage. Shower not very powerful but water hot!. unfortunately it is very close to the M5. This is not a problem inside, but is a detraction outside, otherwise the location is superb. a long walk into town. Hard to find - not their fault, postcode and TomTom mismatch. Nothing. Smell of bleach wafting through dining room from bar. Nothing. Breakfast was cold didn't know how to cook a poached egg and after drivig all day wanted to relax with a drink only to get back to a closed bar at 10pm wasn't impressd!!!. Room was clean and functional but not special. Bedroom and bathroom was very small. price, small room. Post code on sat nav didn’t find hotel but staff very helpful when rang for instructions. Unable to relax in bar after 9.45pm as it was lights out and closed. The rooms are old and need updated although there were new rooms being built and then perhaps the older ones could be re decorated. Shower rooms need totally refurbished with new equipment. Was expecting breakfast for price, when I checked reservation it said breakfast option not available however breakfast was at an extra £6, felt conned. Wifi only worked in bar. Room ok for one would be cramped for couple. Smell of drains in bathroom. Tv remote had been stolen had to chase replacement then none of bbc channels worked. I booked for a sunday night. The hotel closed @ 2000 hrs ( because of a bereavement ?) I went to a local pub for a meal and was advised that it was normal for the Boat & Anchor to close on Sunday's at that time. Lots of building/improvements going on or started. Not user friendly customer appears to be ignored quite often. Booking fees agreed appear to be ignored this was more than likely due to the change in staff mid stay. Bar closed at about 9.pm.Was told no one was about after that but who would go there if there was no guarantee it would be open.My colleague and I spent out our money in town. The place wasn't open when we arrived and nobody responded to phone calls. We arrived around 5 pm and the email we got said it was possible to checkin at this time. When we finally checked in, we were shown to a double bedroom, but a twin was booked (two males sharing). We waited a serveral hours to finally get into the room we had booked. The walls between rooms was quite thin and so noise from other rooms was a nuisance. To say this place was cold would be an understatement , very cold in bar and public rooms bedroom was freezing went to bed fully clothed , and had a sleep less night due tithe cold . This place needs to turn the heating on !!!!! Before 5 pm. Returned to the Inn at 9.00 pm on a Saturday evening in June (should have been busiest night of the week) to find bar locked up and the staff preparing to go home - hostile reception made it clear they were not prepared to re-open facilities for paying guests Shower provided cold water only in room 9 no matter how settings were adjusted No remote control for TV in room 5 Constant background noise from M5 made it impossible to have windows open. Ferocious dog,Dirty room, No food available as bar closed at breakfast, Landlord had dirty apron on when we booked out. All very shabby. The girl in charge was miserable. We arrived at 8pm and asked what time food was served to, she told us 9pm. Having taken our cases to our rooms and returned 10 minutes later we were told the kitchen had closed and all we could have was a ploughmans. Rooms were clean but very tatty. Unfortunately I will not be returning, the accomodation was below a standard I am used to. The decor is tired and cleanlieness of the rooms not great. I arrived before 12 to be told I was early and shouldn't check in until 3pm. I had a business meeting and needed to get changed, the room was freezing and if I had more time I would of arranged to stay somewhere else. This is a real shame as I will be attending the area quite alot for Business in the next few months. Hotel was shabby, dirty, dated, smelt of stale body odour and beer. Didn't even unpack ....... left in a hurry forfeiting our money. Re booked at a holiday inn where the standards are much more acceptable to frequent travellers like us. How you can entertain having the Boat and Anchor on your list of hotels is beyond comprehension.!!!.
