I liked the appearance of the hotel - it is old but tastefully refurbished. The hotel is family run which I liked. The owners were very friendly and attentive. Their teenage son helped out and they had a lovely dog. It had a real family feel about it. Food was great! and rooms were clean and comfortable with free wifi. My teenage son had his own room which he loved! Easy access to the surrounding area and nice town nearby with plenty of places to eat.

The owners are perfect for the job, other staff were helpful, lovely breakfasts served in a beautiful room - & the bonus was a gorgeous dog to greet me when I came "home". Would I go back? Yes!. They found me a room despite a late arrival and letsbookhotel.com's error and put me in a family room and still only charged me for a single. And I got offered the job at the interview I was attending so I must have slept soundly! The smoked salmon and scrambled egg at breakfast was lovely also. This is an attractive period building on a quiet side street with views over the River Torridge and ideal as an overnight base before catching the Oldenburg over to Lundy. The Quay is about ten minutes walk. Friendly owners and breakfast well worth getting up for. the hotel has a great relaxed atmosphere with great hosts. The breakfast more than lived up to expectations with all food sourced locally (5* food standard rating) this hotel is great for business and holiday. Owner, Annie, was very fair and only charged us for one. Breakfast was nice. Nothing. Location was not ideal as hotel is near a suspension bridge with traffic travelling over it, so it was not as quiet as expected. May have been different if our rooms were on other side of the hotel. However this did not spoil our enjoyment, as we live near an A road anyway. Nothing. long, narrow access road. No fresh fruit or yogurt at breakfast, dried fruit infrequently in very small amounts. Though we were out by 9.30 am cleaner(s) sometimes tried to clean the room before we left. The sneakily concealed speed camera on the road downhill coming into Bideford. Hopefully it's switched off. N/A. The shower was very low, just sprinklering, the rest of the bathroom was nice. The word Hotel, as the facilities in my mind were not of a hotel but slightly more than a B&B. it was a little cold. Approach to hotel is through a narrow raoad & hard to find. it was all ok. Shower in our bathroom had poor flow and extractor fan did not work and had been taped over. Some decoration required. A bit of a walk from town center if you are on foot and if with car, might do better with options further out. Greeted by barking dog. No comfortable sitting area outside. room was cold. Road noise from bridge. Condiments out of date. Full English breakfast not nice. TV unable to recieve bbc channels. T facilities poor, room had bad damp, freezing at night, toilet windows rattled, tv poor,. Bed was horribly uncomfortable: far too soft (maybe the springs had gone). Shower didn't mix - water was scalding. Owner's dog was annoying - we don't like dogs particularly and, even though we thought that was pretty clear, they did nothing much to stop it jumping all over us and acted like we were "in the wtong". All-in-all, a bit Fawlty Towers!. Room was dated and worn. Internet access was not reliable.
