My family has been staying there for decades every time we vacation in PR -- since back when it was double the size, a beautiful pool, and dozens of iguanas in the patio! Although we swear the furniture has been the same there since the 70's, it's super clean, beds are very comfortable, and location is great. The staff was very accommodating to the fact that we had a baby, and we felt like we were in someone's lovely home ;) Btw, first time my husband and child have been to PR. We all loved the.

Just take the time to check everything out we are planning another trip with the kids for Aug2013 this year. And it clean and safe that what we look for. So come a stay at the El Canario you will have a great. the location was great. Beach, restaurants, casinos within walking distance. Room was small but fine with me, just needed a place to sleep and shower.Staff was great, the desk clerk (don't remember her name) was great, she hooked us up with a private guide,Javier, who took us to the rain forest and actually walked with us and explained things to us instead of dumping us off in a parking lot and sitting in the van like other tour "guides". I loved the cozy accommodations. It was just the right size for me. It is located in a safe area, bustling with shops and restaurants. It is also in easy walking distance to the beach. And public transportation is available to take a traveler wherever they'd like. The staff is also very responsive to requests for service. It was a wonderful experience. It was well worth the price!. El Canario was a very comfortable stay! Our room was attractively decorated with a comfortable bed and soft sheets and everything was kept very clean. The patio was also wonderful for checking email and having a meal outside of a restaurant setting. I highly recommend the Inn to anyone who prefers a home away from home while travelling instead of the corporate hotel experience. Location. Safe. Police officer located at every other corner. *Safe enough to bring kids! Price was excellent. Beach is located behind the hotel. Resteraunts are located up and down Ashford Ave. No need to go elsewhere. If you just need a place to sleep without the overly priced amenities then this is perfect. Ashford Ave reminds me of a miniture Collins Ave. Miami fl. I enjoyed the hotel and breakfast services helped saved money. It was a block away from the beach and they offered beach towels if you grabbed them first. The Hotel was very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. I felt safe because you had to use your key to enter the property. It could use some modern updates but for the value I was impressed and would return. It was close to the beach, the Spanish design, it is an old building but in very good conditions, fits in my budget. I also liked the continental breakfast. Staff was friendly and very helpful. There was access to a to a fabulous jacuzzy in another hotel of their property. My husband and I enjoyed it. Has Wi-Fi service. It's quiet. The worker at the front desk, Jonita, was amazing. It was very busy and she handled a dozen things with panache - then even upgraded our room since we had to wait so long. Facility is fine, no frills, but for us the level of service made it worth while for our last night in PR. Thanks Jonita!. Felt very safe and cozy! Loved being able to leave door open at night and hearing the coqui frogs. Didn't even turn my tv on once! Location was wonderful!! And el canario has such a homey and authentic feel to it. Can't wait to go back!. Great location - loved the couryard, casual breakfast and access to kitchen for own food storage. Felt secure (locked with front desk staff on duty) and they were helpful with information, printing boarding passes. I stayed at the hotel with my sister and we both enjoyed our stay, very clean, excellent beds, very friendly staff and the hotel is centrally located to the beach and also to bus system to travel to old San Juan. Not to mention the beach around the corner. My only comment is the administration didn't received the request that I send it and I didn't received any message about my request!! Front Door entrance is a double French door where you have to be buzzed in. During a thunderstorm, front desk agent was away, didnt realize that my room key also accesses the front door to the hotel. Aside from that no complaints at all. The layout of the double room was weird but we worked with it. The hotel still uses keys which was very unusual. The hotel is off a very busy street but we were young and thought it was cool. Would have liked to see more hotel amenities but the value was still impressive. Tiny rooms with no view. Lots of street noise. The breakfast could have been a better variety with added fruits. I would have like seating out front and hated the steps to my third floor room there was one staff member that was very rude and I feel he shouldn't be there because the hotel is very special he doesn't belong!!!!!!!!!!!! No close parking. The rooms are dated. But it was exactly what we expected forthe price. The breakfast was pure sugar! Nothing for health conscience individuals. Internet was ok but not great. Needs a little TLC such as carpets in hallways and new doors and locking mechanism to make it look at least a little more secure and the in room safe not so much safe. Can be very easily open with no effort. That the rooms didn't have small refrigerator and microwave. Also, the facility had no elevator and the third floor is too difficult to climb those hard stairs with a bad knee and baggage. Pastries are really the only thing offered for breakfast..ran out of coffee all the time. Staff didn't really attend to it unless it was brought to their attention. The way I look at it, you get what you pay for.. Still for the price, not bad.. No elevator. Mosquitos in the courtyard. The room we had was tiny. I didn't like that the floor in my room was dirty!. Food served for breakfast left plenty to be desired. I understand it is a budget hotel, but i'm sure they could do better than stale pasteries and dillute coffee. If you book a double room, do not expect 2 queen beds in the room like North America. Usually means one bed and a bed cot. The breakfast serving area and presentation were poor, although the eating area was clean, cozy and beautiful. small room & even smaller bathroom. Smallest bathroom I have ever seen in a hotel. Nothing. Breakfast was simple, yet sufficient, however, on a couple of occasions it was not ready at 7:00am. As a diabetic it was difficult to manage late starts. Cleaning women kept refilling lotion but wouldn't restock mini shower gel. She also didn't clean the bathroom sink for the entire week that I was there. N/a. Nothing we did not like,. No elevator ... i was on the 3rd floor and had to drag my luggage all the way up.... nothing to do in that location, other than restaurants. n/a. No elevator to the third floor if you have heavy luggage pieces. Small room, trek sand easily also. It was a 2 night stay & they didn't make the beds, after the 1st night. I thought they would do it automatically, but perhaps I was suppose to hang something on the doornob. didn't have parking. is perfect for the budget. No place to sit outside in the sun. no parking anywhere. - too noisy as our room faced the street. Poor breakfast. Cable down the afternoon we arrived, but was on that night, but off the next morning. No swimming pool or beach views. Have room phone problems.
