I chose the Casa Chalia because the reviews rated the hosts and breakfast so highly and I was not a bit disappointed. When you arrive you do not find a grand lobby but you do get a welcome that makes you feel as if you are at home, and have someone to turn to should you have any questions about getting around Merida. And I was immediately presented with a map of the city, showing the easiest route to the central park. So much more welcoming than a hotel! The accommodations are simple but immacu.

Sent us off early in a.m. with sandwiches--beyond call of duty. Fine breakfast included in pleasant garden. Rooms small but very clean, totally adequate for budget travelers. AC important. Located near the bus terminal. The room was nice, very clean, good AC, comfortable bed, mine had a window to the main street and another in the bathroom. Wifi was decent and available in all building. Great breakfast and lovely hosts. I've enjoyed the stay there and would be back again if I return to Merida. Excellent value for price!! - Good & decent & varying breakfast - Clean - Hospitality of owners - Good working aircon - Common tours (Uxmal, Chichen Itza, etc.) booked via Casa Chalia have a small discount compared when you buy them at the travel agency directly) - Very close to bus terminal (ADO). Lovely hosts! Full of information and banter with all of the guests. Really enjoyed speaking with them both. Breakfast was incredible and bountiful! Start with fruit and juice followed by a different main course depending on the day. Never needed lunch after! Rooms just fine! Very quiet at night. Everything was perfect. The owners were welcoming and very friendly. They can speak several languages (Spanish, English, French, and Dutch). They gave us good tips about the City and an excellent restaurant address. We had a tasty breakfasts which were different every day. Hotel clean. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful. They organised all our tours right through to Playa Del Carmen without us having to do a thing. Breakfast was delicious and complete with table service which was a great treat. Would highly recommend to anyone coming to Merida. Best price-cuality coefficient! Breakfast is great, rooms are small but have the minimum you need for a short stay. The owner is great and very friendly, speaks I guess 5 languages! Very attentive to all your questions and provides you with any info you need. Staff and hospitality were excellent. Jan and Rosalinda were friendly and helpful and easy to be at home with. Rosalinda and Jan were continually friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to assist us in every possible way. The morning breakfast was always delicious and an afternoon siesta in the hammocks hung in the patio area was a Yucatan delight!. The owner is a great man. Helpful, funny, talkative, honest. The place is very near the bus station, so if you need to leave early (the 6:30 bus to Chichen, for instance) it's a good choice. This familly run business has two main advantages: The owner (Belgian) is really heartfull,helpfull,communicative,well-organised, best breakfast- maker, many language speaker. The vicinity to the ado station makes it good choice for excursions to Yucatan attractions. Not a 3star establishment, but still good value for money and well worth the comments of visitors. The owner is fully recomended. The location is near ADO bus station, which is a good thing if you need to take the bus as we did. Quiet. It is family house with many rooms with almost all facing the inner courtyard. Very simple place, small room, but with a very nice welcome and breakfast. It's not so much a matter of not liking this, but just being aware that the accommodations are basic (but certainly adequate and clean) and that Casa Chalia is located a 15-20 minute walk from the central park. I am a lone retired woman and did not feel at all uncomfortable walking home alone at night. No complaints, none. A little outside the center but easily reachable in a 10 min walk. -Rooms/bed could be a bit larger, but hey... the pictures online show how it looks like. I don't have bad allergies, but they were awful when we were there. A bit of dust probably. Neighborhood is fine, we like to be a bit out of the way of the center, but slightly dodgy feeling at night. Would not recommend to single female travelers. Really close to the bus stations which is a plus!. N/A. No shampoo and soap. Poor lighting. We arrived at Cass Chalks late at night and we initially concerned about the safety of the Neighborhood BUT we soon discovered that it was simply an older neighborhood. We spent a week with Rosalinda and Jan and treasure the experience! We walked all over and felt perfectly safe even though we are in our seventies. After spending some time in the Yucatan I can say that the value for money is only fair. For a bit more you'd get a proper hotel, even of an international franchise. Also - the neighbourhood seems quite dodgy after dark. - location, although it's close to ADO bus station, it's quite creepy place specially at night - however it's safe. Rooms could use a little table, but they´re working on it, they promised. And I totally believe them. Nothing. For is nothing, but this płace is more "family-stay" than regular hotel - for some it could be good and for some bad... nada!. No cold water! Even the cold water is warm, even hot after 1-2 min showering. Although you can reach the central part of town in 10minutes it takes longer to get to a lot of the sights in the very centre. It is a great location in terms of proximity to the bus station though. One could say location a bit out of the centre (but walkable). But for the price still very good one. And you can always consider a taxi for €1 :). A little bit far from town centre. Small room without even a small table. Wi-Fi in the room was very poor. not nice surrounding. Very basic rooms, but corespond with price. On the other side the rooms are tiny (but with fans and AC),with the only luxury of some hungers (not even a chair).The run-down neighboring houses make the visits of jungle animals(=cockroaches) not so rare, although all windows have mesh and the rooms are clean.The central plaza(zocalo), where everything happens, is at least 1km away, which is not easily walkable, given the humidity and high temperatures of Merida. No eateries around. The water pump that it is noisy and keeps turning on and off. During the night the lady closes it and so no noise. A table would be nice to put our things, since there is nothing where to put things besides the floor and the bed and a hanger, which is small. No hot water in the two rooms we rented. Internet was useless and connection virtually impossible (owner claims a provider fault, however there have ben previous similar reports) Location was a bit dodgy.
