Tanaka-ya - Valokuvat

We went to Kyoto during August and it was very hot with lots of humidity so that was very uncomfortable but our room at Tanaka-ya was air conditioned so it made our stay very pleasant. I loved the fact that it was a very clean typical Ryokan with all the traditional features that we were hoping to see like Tatami mats and paper sliding windows. I loved the unlimited green tea too! The location of this Ryokan is excellent and very easy and quick to walk into the centre of Kyoto. Kyoto is a dive. kaikki arvostelut »
This small ryokan is amazing. It is located in a quiet corner of Gion, but the kamo river and main roads (bus stops, convenience shops, etc) are just fewer than 5 minutes away by walk. It is an ideal place if your activities centre around Higashiyama. The facilities are absolutely clean and the room is comfortable. The ryokan owner is a nice, genial lady who patiently teach you how to use all the facilities (especially locking the main gate) and give you relevant information on travel in Kyoto.
Excellent ryokan for the price. Very homey feel and a lot of small little things like free coffee and tea that just made the stay very nice. Mrs. Tanaka was also very friendly even though she speaks only a little English. The location was fantastic too as we could walk everywhere and we saw 9 geisha in two nights just walking around outside the ryokan. We stayed at 3 ryokan's, far more pricey, and this was this was the best one by far!.
Tanaka-ya was located within easy access to the sights we wanted to see, not too far from a bus stop and a good walk to some places, which we enjoy. The hostess was very warm and welcoming and everything was explained well. The filtered water, tea & coffee facitilies and PC where we could access internet was appreciated (as we were travelling with no electronic equipment).
Lovely host. The hotel has a beautyful traditional japanese style, and
is very confortable to sleep in futon, even if you are not used to it.
There are more than one , so we never had to wait to use it. The
location is perfect, in the middle of traditional Kyoto, and an just 15
minutes walk from the shooping, nightlife area.
Tamie Tanaka is so sweet and kind. She greets you with tea and a Kyoto map, and is so helpful although she doesn't speak much English. The facilities are good, it's a squeaky old house, so you have to be pretty quiet at night. The location was amazing, everything was clean, would return in a heartbeat.
Just spent 4 nights at Tanaka-ya and it was great. Amazing location on a beautiful little traditional teashop alley, where you can spot geisha in the evenings. Lovely, friendly owner who went out of her way to help us (waking up at 4am to get us a taxi and wake us up). Overall, highly recommended.
Everything was wonderful at this beautiful traditional ryokan! The staff was very accommodating and nice and the facilities were great! An eco-friendly shower room and free tea/drinks made for an even better experience. It was far more than anything I could have hoped for in my visit to Kyoto.
The hostess treated us hospitably and kindly. I and my friend quite
enjoy our staying at Kyoto duo to this nice hostel- kind staff,
comfortable bed & good location. We may book same hostel next time
when we come to Kyoto.
Tanaka-ya is a wonderful small ryokan The location is great, the owner is very friendly and speaks a very decent english. If you want a quiet stay in kyoto this is a good place.
Located in a nice and quiet part of Gion, yet very accessible to Shi-jio. Stroll to Kiyomizudera and explore the alleys for local produce. Tamie-san was friendly and helpful.
Traditional style Japanese room. Awesome location. Owner was very nice
and very helpful. Price for the location (in Gion) was great!.
The friendly welcome of the hostess; fabulous location, comfortable rooms and beds; tea and coffee facilities plus cold water.
good location, close to Gion for shopping. very clean despite of shared bathroom.
quiet at night.
very friendly hostess.
the room is nice and comfy
the guesthouse is in center of Geisha(maiko-san) place...I saw 9 geishas in 1 nite ! :-).
staff was so friendly & helpful, nice place to stay. so close to kyomizudera temple & gion district.
Very friendly lady running the place. Very quiet if all guests follow the rules.
Everything. Very authentic ryokan. Near loads of restaurants. Made my trip.
The atmosphere of the ryokan. The owner was very kind and helpfull...
Great japanese style rooms, Great location and friendly staff.
Japanese style.
Location in residential area, feels like going back to home, instead of hotel.
Close to Gion, and at night, can see some Maikos (Geisha in apprentice) walk by to come home.
There is nothing I didn´t like!.
The shower room is shared and not allowed to be used after 11pm, it could be sometimes inconvenient if you come back late or all 3 rooms are full (you have to queue...). However, this will not be an issue once you take this into account in your daily plan.
We were charged extra for our infant. This is stated on the booking page, but no other hotel or ryokan in Japan charged us extra for our baby to stay.
We loved everything. But expect to be quiet in the hotel. The walls are
thin and the spirit of the place is that of relaxation and respect for
others rest. Not that it is a bad thing, but is good to know if you plan
to travel with a noisy party.
If you're a light sleeper (we're not), you may find it's a little loud when people step on creaky floorboards on their way to the loo at night or come in late.
Nothing really. There is only one shared shower, but for some reason we never had to wait for anyone.
You need to carry your heavy luggage upstairs since all the rooms are at
second floor.
Not much. However, bathroom & shower facilities are shared which was
fine with me. Just have to go with the right expectations.
Lack of a/c in the toilet/washing area; these areas were like a sauna as it was very hot in Kyoto. However, the shower room was comfortable.
it will be perfect if any provision of breakfast.
shared bathroom.
Nothing.
I get lost twice before get the hang of it (normally i'm good at direction). The map given is not very detailed, better to come prepare for that. It's about 10-15 min walk to nearest train station.
Room is in 2nd floor, and stairs rather small/steep. Not really recommended for big and heavy luggage.
