Super comfortable beds & luxurious linen. Exactly what you want in an airport hotel. Windows really were soundproof. Excellent rain shower. Funky decor in the hotel & nice common areas to relax. Coffee on tap was a nice touch. The service was great. We booked late that afternoon on the internet and were upgraded to a suite. We had had a very long day travelling and waiting for a taxi so were very appreciative of the kind gesture. One of the better Protea hotels in South Africa- very well managed, organized and clean. Staff and service were excellent. Very good for airport connections with shuttle bus service every half hour. Second night there were lots of doors banging in the corridor all night long. We were told it was due to a specific group. No mini-bar/ fridge in the room. Nothing. Location, if driving, is not convenient with chance of getting lost or turned around quite high. My credit card was charged twice by mistake but I was contacted immediately and the problem was resolved. Restaurant staff in evening completely disinterested in client - too busy chatting and laughing as a social group to be bothered with a mere guest!! Breakfast buffet overpriced Thought it odd to make a charge to Card at Registration before any service taken or rendered, why not simply Swipe for security??. nothing all good. Cant think of anything. Bad water leak from ceiling to bath (reported to hotel staff.). The shuttle driver who dropped us off at the airport Monday apparently did not like the tip I gave him which I thought was generous. I gave him a tip at the hotel and at the airport because at the hotel I didn't realize he was the driver. He kept pushing for a bigger tip saying my bag was heavy. It just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I would prefer no one touch my luggage and certainly would not like to have to deal with that every time. I had to wait a long time for the shuttle. None. The cooking smell on the ground floor reached up to the fifth floor. The kitchen needs better ventilation. I asked to be prepared a room well in advance, but I had to wait another 2.5hrs because the linen was not ready. I was tired, sick and needed an urgent rest after a long flight. The room is not sufficiently isolated, there is a lot of transit noise. Lack of information on transfer to the airport. Reluctance to provide us with a room upon our arrival at 7:00am. The room had not been in use the night before, but we had to wait about 1 hour. As another guest said, "they have a procedure". One member of staff (a lady at the reception) was terribly rude. No smile and looked very militant in her approach in talking to us. Ironically the lady we met during our check out, was excellent. She greeted us, smiled and talked to us like customers. No face washers. Mattress may need to be turned regularly. Slow shuttle. shower shower privacy window size. Charge for Wifi. N/a. Open shower in room. The Internet was very disappointing, top speed of 250kbps is pathetic for a modern hotel, cant Skype or do high speed work. The room was not ready for us when we arrived from our international flight in the morning. We had to wait in Reception. I have a bad back so that was not ideal. Was asked to pay cash deposit for incidentals, but then when I check out early the following morning, cash was not available and they wanted to credit to my Prokard. I said no, and they eventually found cash to refund me. We booked the hotel at the airport on line, and got to the airport about 3 hours later. The desk did not have our reservation in their system from letsbookhotel.com. They did find it, eventually. The room with two single beds is pretty cramped. Because of the proximity to the airport, it is loud outside by the lovely pool. Accessing the internet can be a challenge. Difficult to find arriving by car. Not well indicated. Maybe all ¨Protea Hôtels have to change their aluminium Windows because sleeping Inside or outside it's just the same. The insulation. Rooms are noisy - can hear neighbours as well as any noise in corridor. Television was not tuned properly and has a very limited range of channels. The evening buffet dinner was terrible. Particularly the main course was dreadful - dried pieces of fried fish, overdone dry beef "rolls" and mushy overcooked vegetables. No value for money at all. Could have a very good steak meal at a decent restaurant for a similar price. 2 disappointingly tough bad quality steaks Long wait in transit bus. Porters a bit pushy to load bags on arrival. Not really at OR tambo plus long queue on shuttle service. I requested for a room with 2 twin beds but the guy at check in gave us a double bed. No mini fridge in the room and quite costly while breakfast is not even included in the room rate. During night staff had no respect to talk so loud / hammer noise during night in building.
