Lovely, kind and helpful people, from the two young ladies at reception (Giordana and Eleonora) to the maid, to the lady responsible for breakfast. They're not just polite, they're genuinely nice. There are 2 bridges in between, the big one right out the train station and a little one after so you may suffer a little with your luggage, but thats normal in Venice.
