In this case, I can admit that Aquamarine hotel was perfect- near the city centre (reach in 10 min by metro), calm place, good stuff.   Great location, an easy 15 min walk to Red Square and Metro stations less than 10 mins in either direction. Friendly, helpful staff by Russian standards. Warm, clean, comfortable rooms and a good if unchanging breakfast.
