The staff/owner was the nicest lady we met on our entire trip. When she found out it was our honeymoon she put us in the nicest chalet away from everyone, with the best view of the mountains. She also called into the restaurant we were going to and bought us dessert! The best part though was that she was so helpful (but not in an overbearing way). She hand wrote a map for us detailing some of the secret places to visit for best views, etc... and also gave recommendations on the best time of day.

We loved our stay and will definitely return to JAG escape, Jo was so friendly, she had outstanding local knowledge and we were kept well informed of the Haast Pass closure information. The included breakfast was exceptional and had everything you could possible want. The room was lovely and clean and the bed was very comfortable, I could have stayed forever! I think our favorite thing was that all the products eg: coffee, shampoo, soap etc were all NZ p. The hospitality was amazing - Jo was probably one of the friendliest people that we have met on our trip. The accommodation was equally amazing, new, great heating, incredible view of the snow capped mountains (the first time I've ever seen snow capped mountains & I'm 34 years old). It was nice that it was just out of town 4klms. We had our own vehicle so it wasn't an issue. We also got a pretty good deal with complimentary breakfast as it was a last minute booking (trying to fill rooms). We were not aware that the latest check in should be at 7pm, we were late and called the JAG staff and told her we will be late can we still check in, she's a very nice lady and told us don't worry, she's left the key in the room and a note in the reception area for us. We are so glad we chose to stay here..the location of JAG was just 5 mins drive from Franz Josef town centre, the staffs are very friendly, the rooms are clean & comfortable, worth every penny!. The Alpine Retreat was exactly what my wife and I were looking for! The accommodations were excellent. The place was very large with full kitchen, dining room and living room. It was very clean with amazing views and quiet privacy if desired. I would highly recommend the Alpine retreat over the hotels right in town. Our host were also fantastic and provide a nice continental breakfast in the mornings. The very friendly staff who went out of their way to help. We were giving some Whitebait and were even supplied with the flour on baking powder. When I cooked the meal I converted to Australian ladies to the delicacy. Took the Helicopter to snow and can only say it was the best highlight of our trip. Everyone was blown away, once a life time experience. The moment we stepped into the 2-bedroom cabin, we love it. Large dining and living area. Very well-equipped modern kitchen, have almost everything you need and all very high quality. Most importantly, the host, Jo, was a really friendly and helpful lady. Thanks, Jo, for a very wonderful stay! Only regret not checking in earlier. The hotel rooms were actually 2 bedroom/kitchen/living room cottages which can actually accomodate 4 adults. The rooms were very tastefully furnished and sufficiently heated. The host was a dynamic lady always ready to help with a smile. The rooms had great views of the ice capped mountains above the glacier. Very pleased to turn up here and find the chalet in good, clean condition with sufficient facilities for us to stay with our daughter and her boyfriend. Very helpful owner. Has outside decking and seating. Quite location and off street parking within easy access to the shops and main attractions. Jo at front of house was very professional and friendly, who went out of her way to lead us in the right direction for things to do and places to eat at budget prices. The chalet was spacious with wonderful views of the mountains and in an extremely quite location. Jo was very helpful and went the extra mile to make sure we were happy and well looked after. When we left, she rang the horse riding place we went to because we had left something behind, it was my toilet bag which would have been a disaster if I had left it there. The staff, Aaron and Paul, where incredibly accommodating. The cottages were newly constructed with very nice appliances. The cottages were very clean and it is obvious they spend attention to detail. I would highly recommend staying in the Jag Escape!. We had a lovely time, Jo and Arron looked aftr us very well. They organised a free shuttle into town for dinner and also helped with our Helicopter Glacier trip. a lovely short brake in Franz Joseph. Very spacious cabins with everything you need. Shower very good, large sofas to enjoy a film in the evening, kitchen with all facilities and a quiet location slightly outside Franz Josef village. The units were fully self contained with plenty of room. Paul the manager was very helpful. We were also able to borrow videos and books for the quiet. Evenings. We had a very comfortable stay. Great quiet location just out of town, Friendly manager who fitted in with us and gave great advice on local attractions and restaurants. Unit generally very clean and tidy. Comfortable beds. It was clean and fresh. Very comfortable and spacious. A nice outlook and a great experience. I will definitely use this place again. Quite modern and it was exactly what we wanted. Easy walk to view Franz Joseph Glacier. Recommended by host Jo to book Fox Glacier 1/2 day hike onto glaciers. Fantastic!! Great place to stay - host Jo is amazing. The 2 bdrm unit was spacious and the full kitchen was a great asset for our family. The manager, Jo, went out of her way to be helpful. Would definitely stay again. Facilities were great DVD, laundry, breakfast etc. The staff were friendly & as a matter of courtesy offered us with complimentary snacks on arrival which was welcoming as we were very hungry. The wi-fi does not reach the furthest cabin from the reception office, so we'd have to go down near the office to pick up a signal. Not a big deal though, since we didn't travel to NZ to surf the web!. That we only stayed 1 night, we should have planned to stay longer :). the floor in our room had cracking noises everytime we walk on it...in the morning we had to take every step very lightly so we dont awake the other couple who was still sleeping in the next room. The breakfast included in the room rate could have been better. Without a GPS it would have been difficult to find as it was approx 5 km out of the main hub of FJ but worth the drive. Nothing, but if tou are travelling without a car, it may not suit you. that our stay couldnt have been for longer. This Motel was the only one without visible nighttime signposting, so not that easy to find if arriving in darkness. It was too far out of town to walk to the shops etc but this suited us. TV channels not all tuned in. Some mould on curtains. Location was a little far from town 4kms. There was nothing I didn't like about it. nothing. The only thing I didn't like was that our room smelled like curry.. A bit away from the market. There was no rangehood in the kitchen, it got smoky when cooking. just for the bad weather day that we could not see the glacier. None. Nothing!. 1 or 2 fittings were not functioning properly- but did not affect our enjoyment of the stay. Too quiet n less activities for kids.. Having to leave was was a problem. Needs clothing hanging facility. None that I didnt like. Uncomfortable couch.
