The staff were friendly. The hotel is in a great location and has loads of character. I really enjoyed my stay. The staff were very friendly and informal. I was travelling on my ownbut didn't feel as though I was.We loved being right beside the canal, wonderful building, and right in the centre of Leiden. The best I ever had in Europe: clean, good breakfast, private bathroom -just great.

Location was excellent for us.Everything was good ... note also for #4 below; I listed "location" as my top item but, equally, I always prefer an older historic hotel (not necessarily very fancy) to something newer and less interesting; this goes together with the idea of a central location (all was good this way and you don't need to change much). The rate was a third factor as well as it is reasonable. We could return at night anytime as there was a night porter to let usin. This meant we did not have to hurry back.The peace of the surroundings. The cleanliness and the reception staff. The breakfasts were also good. Very helpfull staff.Great location. Friendly staff with bar that was open for drinks. Nice having smal shop for snacks and shampoo. Breakfast buffet good and was open early. Non-smoking rooms and great showers. Its in the Old Town and has a "climate". Rooms are clean and the staffis friendly and informal.friendly staff and atmosphere. Fabulous building and location in the old town. Lovely, quiet setting - a nice change from Amsterdam when an overnight through Schiphol airport is required. Decor in breakfast room is delightful. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the hotel is conveniently situated in the centre of Leiden.It was ok...I had a small room giving off on an internal yard...it was quiet at least. There was a bath in the bathroom which I really liked. The charm of staying in a old dutch hotel, not in a concrete standard box. Good location in the centre of Leiden. Good situation in the center. the style, they have prepared breakfast at 4am - this I have very much appreciate. We did not like those dreadful gnomes in the rooms.Yes, there was a bar in the alley way below our rooms and the noise was terrible. This went on until after 4.00 am one morning and caused a lot of loss of sleep. Paying for the internet. the stairs with heavy suitcases is tricky. I'd really like tea and coffee making facilities accessible in room, but maybe this is an english concept.No elevator. room was very basic, but fine. As our window was above the nightclub, we had very, very disturbed sleep and would not chose this hotel again unless a room on the other side was guaranteed. No glass in bathroom to allow a drink of water.wifi access expensive. lumpy pillows chemical smell in bathroom, and absence of a cover sheet on the bed. The one thing, which made the comfort factor poor is the proximity of arowdy night club close by making it impossible to sleep until after2.00am each night (friday and saturday). The room was too small especialy compared to that of other guests. The furniture was old, dark and heavy.There was not much to eat for breakfast. Seemed to be a bit slap dash about eating dinner at the hotel. However we eat out all the time. Breakfast was fine.The hotel was over-priced and very basic. I had a broken chair, a light that didn't work and hairs in the shower. There was nothing other than the furniture in the room i.e. no pen, paper, drinking water, tea, coffee, shower cap, lotions or any of those little extras that cost very little but help make the stay more comfortable. Staff not very kind Windows doing a lot a noise when it's windy Lot of noise from the street during night (single glass windows). i could not sleep in the room, too hot in the room, i will never sleep in this hotel again.
