The location was very convenient, right next door to the train station. Kumamoto was a great place to stay with the hotel being right next to the station. We would have loved to stay an extra night as there is plenty to do in this lovely castle city.   Yamada Bessou is one of the most (if not the most) lovely places I have ever been. It has all the atmosphere of a picturesque Japanese ryokan, with spatious rooms and all the commododities of a good hotel. They have one staff capable of speaking English (something very rare in Japan for small hotels!), but everyone is so overwhelmingly helpful and... 别人怎么说 » friendly that you will quickly forget that they are speaking Japanese. The breakfast is excellent, as well as a beautiful outdoors bath (rotemburo) w - This is a very homey family-owned and -run guest house (from since the current owner's great-grandfather). My wife and I felt very welcomed during our stay. Among the facilities are the excellent onsens (separate public men/women and another private one). The location is also very good -- only a 10-15 minute walk from Beppu JR Station which is the hub Beppu's public transportation services.
