The staff were all absolutely kind and helpful and the place felt like
home. We borrowed their inexpensive rental bikes, which were great for
getting around. Traditional and cozy. All the things I would want: clear
explanation of how things work, fridge and simple kitchen access, 24
hour entry, help with transit info, pleasant showers, handy poste

with hours noted of local bath houses, kept our bags after check-out,
windows open, nice light, pretty wood work and no tv. -
Unless I have the cash to stay at a high-end Ryokan, Gojo is my favorite place to stay in Kyoto. The staff are wonderful and kind, but also almost all young Japanese living in Kyoto. They have great recommendations and are funny and helpful. They also play cool music in the relaxed cafe where a nice thick piece of honey toast and a hand drip cup of coffee are only 300 yen!
