The hotel was not open until 16:00 but that is as described in the information supplied. I just forgot! Laon is a lovely place and it was a chance to stroll around and have a beer in the many bars and soak up a few rays. The desk was manned by a delightful and very helpful young man who could not have made us more welcome. He showed me to the parking area which is a little tight space wise so you may need someone to guide you in. Clearly 17th Century gates were not designed with cars in mind! T.
所有评语 » This is a gem of a hotel. The proprietor, Matthieu ensures a very warm welcome and clearly has great pride in his hotel. The 18th Century building has been lovingly restored to retain all of its original features and provide an ambience that feels like time dilates as you step inside. Clean, well priced and charming, one of the most enchanting hotels I've ever stayed in. Very nice welcome from Matthieu. Hotel was lovely and more so was our room. Matthieu even gave us a baby cot FOC for the night. Really helpful and let me park my car with bikes on the roof in his own personal parking space at the side of the hotel. We felt right in the heart of french living and loved every minute of being there. Would highly recommend. The hotel had amazing character, charm and the atmosphere; Quaint. The man that greeted us was very friendly and spoke decent English; The location was fabulous; in the heart of the old town with plenty of small restaurants and shops, great city views and right near the cathedral. The room was decent sized, simple and clean; which was all we needed!. The hotel was very good, especially for the price. I was traveling with 3 friends and we stayed in a two-room suite at the top floor. The owner was wonderful, great breakfast and good location right in the heart of the old medieval town ot Laon. Very affordabel and comfortable. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't need fancy accomodation!. Friendliness of hotel manager; rustic simplicity of bedrooms; sympathetic refurbishments underway - bringing character back by revealing old beams etc. Our room [6] was quiet, clean, spacious and comfortable. Wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend to others. Ideally situated to explore the very interesting old city centre. Amazingly helpful staff: suggested perfect restaurant for local well priced food; mapped out a scenic route for us; exceptional. With this perfect location and real feel of history despite tactful renovation. As fabulous as reviewers say - not luxury show expense - simply exceptional. Most helpful and friendly patron. Central and very quiet location. Excellent continental breakfast. Arrived on Sunday, so free parking in adjacent town square until 0900 Monday - patron could arrange private parking if required at other times. We would definitely stay there again. All in all ado consider the place if you are in the area. The manager was really considerate and kept in touch throughout the day when we realised we would be arriving very late. He had some good tips and advice about the local area. Delicious breakfast which was great value for money. The renovated rooms on top floor are great as are the staff and breakfast' the bottle of champagne in ice left in our room to apologise for putting us in the first floor un renovated rooms was appreciated' Merci!. The owner was very nice and helpful in giving directions and tips for seeing the city sites. The room was comfortable and clean. It was an affordable, clean, friendly place to stay in a unique town. My daughter and I had a large room and bathroom with 2 beds and Internet. The owner speaks excellent English and is very helpful. We had to use public parking; which was ok for us since it was free on Sundays (We were there Saturday nite) Even so, it was very reasonably priced- However depending on the time of the day, it may be hard finding a spot. The hotel was tucked back and we drove by it by chance-it could be very easy to miss. The hotel is undergoing what I believe is slow renovation--no noise just some areas not "finished." That did not bother me at all. It is a work in progress!. Initial arrival at frontage & rather dark reception belies the lovely refurbished rooms on the first floor. nothing. . No lift - spiral staircase only. Best to take only overnight luggage into hotel. On a bank holiday Monday in May Laon is basically shut. Most eateries closed. We were only there as a stopover en route from Alsace to Calais but a bit disappointed it was so empty. A very minor point but I wish French hotels offered tea facilities as we Brits love to have a cup of tea !. Do not under any circumstances stay in un renovated 1st floor rooms until they are finished! Be sure to check as they are currently appalling! We stayed on 2 occasions' the second time was in the disgusting ones' I would have scored it excelant for everything if we had been top floor both times. Nothing - all very good. The bathroom ceiling paint was pealing and needed to be repainted. It was clean and just needed repair -- not a big problem. The town needs to maintain the vacant buildings across the street so they have a better appearance. The restaurant opposite the cathedral was expensive with poor customer service. The entrecote was very griselly. a very poor experience that made what should have been good into a poor one. Could have benefitted from some fans in the room on the night we stayed. In due course a new stair carpet and refreshment of the decor of the breakfast room and entrance hall would be beneficial, although it has a certain 'period' charm!. No elevator but owner was most helpful in carrying up luggage - nothing was too much trouble. No lift - but the manager insisted on carrying our luggage upstairs for us. The bed was not very comfortable and the headboard banged against the wall every time you moved, waking you up. the entrance , it makes you wonder, but once you are inside, its very charming. Norhing. Nothing. Nothing. Beds were a bit unconfortable. the exterior is a bit off-putting. Stair carpet very worn. entrance a bit dark and dusty, but I am sure that will change as renovations progress. Sign outside hotel not very obvious, might be due to planning regs, (if they exist in France !!). The hotel was a little tired in places. Stairs no lift. Paint flaking off ceilings on otherwise nice bathrooms. The Hotel does not look good from the outside and does not improve much when you get inside. It is quite dingy but the patron says he has modifications in progress. Our bedroom was typically French but the bed was very small.
