  My husband and I are divorced, but we take our kids 9&12 on family vacations. We had adjoining rooms with huge screened in porches on the ground level. The view was incredible, but private. We had a direct walk out to the beach. We went kayaking, boogie boarding and shelling...all of which are right there. It's is not a huge commercial resort and we especially liked that - We loved the Island: in fact we wished we could live their as we liked it so much. "Not your typical people:" everyone was friendly and happy, inviting (no in your face type people or look at me, or us - not showy - quite private and inviting atmosphere (completely unlike the Florida Keys, which I have great disdain for, except its beauty).   The staff was more than helpful, the cottage was located just a short walk from the beach. Beach area was clean, and not overcrowded. Felt extremely safe with the walk to and from the beach being that it was just us three ladies.   My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Our condo was very neat and it had all the amenities we needed to make out stay very pleasant. The location of the condo to the beach was great and the landscaping of the complex was very pretty. Also, the pool, tennis courts, basketball court, and rental bikes were a big plus.   We loved it!! We arrived at 3pm and our upgraded unit was ready. It was a newly renovated time share unit that was magnificent. The grounds were beautifully maintained and the staff responded immediately when we needed a couple of fixes to our unit. The ac control needed a battery and the repair was done immediately. The rental price for beach chairs and umbrella were fair. We enjoyed renting bicycles onsite for 24 hours to explore all the wonderful sights available within biking distance. The beach was lovely. We enjoyed listening to the surf from our room. The pool and lunch/happy hour choices were pleasant. Dinner at the Thistle Inn was very good.

The Shalimar staff are friendly and welcoming and the grounds and facilities are perfectly maintained. I can count on a quiet and relaxed vacation when I stay at the Shalimar. We only stayed for one night, but we could have EASILY stayed a whole week. All the amenities: kitchen, bathroom, beds, dining area, and full living room.
