  The area is not bad at all! There is construction, but you can tell it is an up & coming area! If you use 200 Florida ave ne you will get to the hotel no problem. As far as "sketchy" people in the area I will say this, there is a mix of people in the area & there are pan handlers all over dc, even by the White House. The metro is right out... vad folk säger » side & very easy to use! There's a Starbucks, 5 guys burgers, 7-11, cvs, & Au Bon Pain all right outside or within 5 minutes walking. I'm very - Great hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Gym open 24/7. Bistro serving decent food/drink (a bar and serving Starbucks coffee) that you can eat in, take out or take up to the room. Location was excellent, walkable distance from Union Station and right next to the NoMa–Gallaudet metro station on the red line, linking straight to the Zoo or just one transfer to get to L'Enfant Plaza station (buses to Dulles airport) and a transfer from Smithsonian and the Mall.   We were stollen at Georgetown and the staff of the hotel was very kind and helpful. They have called the police, who came to the hotel and at the end of the day, when we arrived to the room, we had a very kind note offering a bottle of wine and some fruit. They made as feel as if we were at home in a difficult situation. Thanks a lot! These areas included an excellent restaurant and bar and a lovely reading room. The staff were friendly and helpful as well. The spa was fabulous. Three of our party had a massage, and each of us was pleased with the experience. The room was quiet and nicely appointed, although not as luxurious as some other five star hotels we've stayed in.

  As a mom traveling with 2 children, we REALLY enjoyed our stay at The Baron Hotel. Dwight, the front desk wizard, was friendly, helpful, and so great with the kids. The location is in a very safe area which is easily accessible from public transit. It is an older hotel, but this added to its charm rather than detract from it. If you're in DC - I had read some negative reviews before our trip , but decided to take a chance. Very glad we did. The staff was very helpful , the room was clean and neat and with vintage charm. The staff at the restaurant/bar were so nice , gave us ice in our cooler every time we needed with no problem at all. Loved the 4 days we spent there. Would stay again in a heartbeat! As for having no elevator, it is only 4 stories high, no big deal at all people!! Maybe count it as your daily exercise to walk a few s
