We experienced a hotel that was value for money from the day we arrived, we were on a B and B tariff and had excellent value for money. We were in the area to visit friends and found the location of the hotel ideal. My partner and I usually visit Newcastle up to four times each year and believe we have found the perfect place to stay. Looking forward to many more visits to the Swallow Hotel at Gateshead.
alla recensioner » Booked a double but we were obviously upgraded... Loads of space; good sized bedroom, sitting room with t.v., generous sized bathroom with full sized shower cubicle - as well as full sized bath, and the 4th area in the 'apartment' was a very nice dressing room. It was clean but many areas were 'tired', I think that's the best way to describe them... Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is my favourite I stay as often as I can, ive read other guests comments and I dont agree with some things written mainly about the decor yes it could do with a make over but its not bad ive stayed in hotels that charge 5 times as much and have been 10 times worse. The staff, food and location make it worth every penny. Obviously the hotel is running on a very tight budget but the staff remained friendly and helpful. The room was adequate size-wise and very clean though needed a little updating with regards to furnishings. "Secure" parking was a bonus (not sure how long the key code number has been in existence though). Cheap cheerful very near to transport facilities for newcastle and beyond, pleasantly surprised with the single room I booked, shower and bath, most places you get a choice, take it or leave it, staff very helpful, breakfast was included in the £49 I paid, would definitely use this hotel again. I needed to be close to the venue of a wedding in Gateshead so the location was perfect. It wasn't far from Newcastle Central Station either. They served a kosher breakfast but I think that had more to do with our hosts at the wedding than the hotel. Very friendly staff, bedroom cleaned immaculately - even to the extent of carefully folding pyjamas. Well done! Breakfast time altered Sunday to facilitate those like me who needed to leave early for an event at the Sage. Excellent. Once again very impressed with hotel and staff, just spent 4 night easter break at hotel and already booked this weekend, its real value for money and ive stayed in a lot of hotels in Newcastle and The Swallow is the best. My stay was very pleasant,my room was very good, maid service very good.Hotel has bar & restaurant for food & drink on an evening staff are very friendly. Breakfast is self service including toast, coffee is very good. From the moment we arrived at the Swallow the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The hotel although showing some signs of age was very clean, the breakfasts were great and all of the staff were wonderful . I had an excellent stay at the Swallow Hotel. The room was clean, comfortable and the breakfast was very good. Hotel staff were kind and helpful. The hotel is good quality and I would certainly stay at the hotel again. The room was large and very clean. It could do with an upgrade as regards decor bathroom/ carpet. There was everything you could want, iron, ironing board ,hairdryer,trouser press. We had a very comfortable weekend. The staff, particularly in the restaurant, are wonderful particularly in their attention to helping the British visually impaired bowling teams. We go there every year and are never disappointed at our welcome. Staff very friendly and helpful throughout. Breakfast was basic but plenty of it and quality was good. Location reasonable, 10 min walk to the Metro. For the budget price a very comfortable stay in clean rooms. we were allocated accommodation which consisted of bedroom, lounge, dressing room and bathroom. Our lass was very impressed, I was pleased with everything especially the powerful shower and hot bath water. Stayed here for a party weekend in Newcastle, staff made the hotel such an enjoyable experience!! Hilarious!! Hotel was quite dated, but for the price/location etc it was great. The Staff at this Hotel are the Hotel !!!,Very Nice and Very Helpfull, the Hotel clean,rooms very good, and if you want gold taps and door handles you pay gold Money. From the outside the hotel looks very run-down. The sparse reception area is a little off-putting but the helpful reception staff go some way to making up for it. No de-caf coffee or tea! Breakfast was poor but for the price we paid we can't grumble. Read some of the comments on the site and have to say a lot of people want 5* luxury but are only willing to pay for 3*, yes there are things that could be improved but I wanted somewhere to lay my head close to newcastle and this hotel ticked all the box's. I had no problems at all. I have no adverse comments to make. The hotel is looking a little "tired" but that is an observation not a complaint. Nothing everything was perfect. Parking is via a roller shutter door which leads to an under ground car park this has to be operated by stepping out the car,once parked you return to the hotel by walking down the street back to the hotel no internal entrance from hotel to car park not ideal. my room had no info on bar & restaurant times I went down one night @ 8-30 and was told the kitchen was closed not ideal. When being seated for breakfast you only receive tea or coffee , an offer of toast would be more welcome. None. The room was very hot the window only opened a couple of inches. We could have asked for a fan but as we were only there at night and my husband wouldn't have it on at night we didn't bother. The way some guests, especially hen and stag parties treat the place. Car parking an issue. The secure parking area roller shutter door was broken so left vehicles exposed out of view. Only 6 spaces in front of hotel. Rooms are tired but just need sprucing up. Having to leave at the end of each stay. there's nothing to dislike. I was not allocated the room I had pre booked from my previous stay which was disappointing. The room I was allocated was a double room, size of room was very small, very little space around the bed,not ideal. Only one pillow per person made sleeping less comfortable. This is an older hotel that is in need of some refurbishment, however the rates are very reasonable and reflect what is provided. It's worth a try. nothing. carpets needed cleaning & updateing. Generally, in need of an overhaul. Decor, fixtures and fixtures showing their age. The hot water was not working when I needed to have a couple of showers. Disapointing. The Decor was very dated. Peeling pain and stained ceiling in bathroom. Damaged and scuffed walls in foyer. Lager in bar not served in correct glasses and lager was flat. Breakfast did not look inviting. Not enough pillows. A bit tired. Needs a facelift but still excellent value for the price - just a base to sleep in. I got to the hotel about 13.40 and as check in time was 14.00 there was no flexibility in giving the key earlier. although breakfast was good but could have done with a bit more choice on cooked breakfast only had fried eggs, ( no scramble or boiled). First room was noisy like a washing machine going asked to be moved. walk,in the rain from the garage. The hotel is in need of some tender loving care the decor being somewhat out of date. Bar shutting at 11pm on Saturday night seemed a little early. No problems anywhere in the Hotel. hotel was in need of refurb. A little tricky getting to by road until you see the signs. bar didn't open until 1730 and wasn't inviting. Quite a few hen & stag parties staying, who were noisy late in the corridors at night. TV's need upgrading. bed and pillows were a bit hard, but staff tried to make things a bit more comfortable. Very tired building. My room had a leaking shower. Hotel is looking very tired.
