It was only a few minutes from the railway station and the train links to and from central London were excellent. A lovely leafy, quiet suburb. Although there was modernisation work going on it did not interfere with any aspects of our stay there. The new kitchen dining area is superb. Our two night stay was excellent and all the facilities first class. The choice and quality of food for breakfast was of a very high standard. Fran and Viv were very helpful and friendly and made us feel most . alla recensioner »
I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Melrose house and would highly recommend this B and B to anyone who enjoys quiet, comfort, and hospitality. Mrs. Roberts, the proprietor, is friendly and accommodating, while her staff, son, and daughter, are exceptional hosts as well. The full breakfast was delicious, filling, provided a wonderful variety of cold and hot choices, prepared to order. Our sleeping quarters were clean, bright and convenient to the private access. If and when I return to London, .
A wonderful hotel. We were looking for something not very expensive,
but also not far from central London and desided to stay there. The
hotel is situated in a very scenic place, our room was clean and
comfortable, not very big, but it was enough for two, breakfasts were
very tasty. Tea, coffee and teapot in the room were available. The
atmosphere there was very friendly, Thanks to Vic and Fran we felt like
we were home and it was amazing. If we go to London again, we will sure
stay at Melrose .
The hotel was very quiet and extremely clean. The room was well equipped (private shower/toilet, TV, trouser press, hair-dryer, free safe, etc.) and comfortable. Free Wi-Fi was also available - which was great.
Breakfast was also very good (everything is cooked fresh for you on demand). Staff were very helpful.
Can't beat the package for the money paid.
You feel like home at Melrose House due to an atmosphere which perfectly blends freedom and comfort. The location is very convenient (just half an hour from Central London, but far from its jams in a very quiet neighborhood).
All in all, our stay was quite satisfactory at a very reasonable price. Good choice!.
The hotel was great and very good value for money. Small attention to detail with things in the room. Good location. We both slept really well, and the breakfast had huge choice. We had to get up early for a bike ride on the Sunday, so asked if we could have breakfast early, and it was no problem at all.
A lovely place to stay! Quaint bedroom suite with a large shower. Great breakfast included. Large shower (hard to come by at most b&b homes). Only a 5 minute walk to penge east train station which is 15 minutes from central London.
The friendly, professional welcome and atmosphere. We have tried several hotels since our son moved to London but we will return to Melrose House every time now that we have found it.There was nothing to find fault with.
Reasonable price, good sized well decorated and clean room with very comfortable bed and spacious en-suite bathroom. In a quiet area with good transport links to Central London.
nice and clean room with own bathroom. full english breakfast and cold breakfast included. typical english guesthouse in an old building. friendly and helpful staff.
Close to train station, 15 mins into central london. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable.
Excellent breakfast.
Friendly Staff.
Overall very enjoyable stay.

Close to train station, easy to get into London, great cooked breakfast selection.
Comfortable room, good food, nice location, friendly people and a nice period house.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Nice room. Good hot and cold breakfast.
very helpful any questions answered would stay again.
Excellent breakfast, good service. Very comfy rooms.
Nice garden room. Very good breakfast provided.
It's always a pleasure to stay at the melrose.
Very friendly and lovely accommodation.
Large room & good breakfast.
Everything.
Delicious real English breakfast. Staff is really nice. Cosy, slow pace atmosphere in a leafy area, like a countryside Bed&Breakfast. Good cost-benefit ratio.
It was calm, quiet, situated in a nice area, well connected by train to the centre of London. Very good breakfast included in the price.
The breakfast in morning was very good. Cooked fresh to order. The rooms were clean and tidy. Overall good b&b.
Hospitality and location was really good. Good breakfast.
Very near train station.
Breakfast is good.
Location was good if you want to trains to London etc. Nice garden.
My only "didn't like" isn't a reflection on Melrose House or its staff. Guests just need to be aware of the distance/time to inner London via train and underground for sightseeing (timing and planning) to avoid being locked out of the underground station after 12:30 am and to learn the bus system quick, fast, and in a hurry!.
Nothing; it was exactly what we wanted and asked for.
Nothing remarkable.
Nothing.
Prior to booking, room said there was a bath. No bath on check in.
Nothing.
Nothing to dislike by any fair minded person.
We stayed the weekend of the heavy snow but the front path was not
cleared or any salt etc put down, which left it very dangerous.
The bathroom was inadequately ventilated and was dank.
N/A.
Nothing to dislike.
Outside my room window has discarded furniture. Not good view to see. Has mold in the room.
The room was looking into a winter garden and it had no access to fresh air, especially in the night.
You must not expect a 4 star accomodation as it was described, however. You won't reach the city centre in a minute.
The room as such was very small and, even so, it was not warm enough, especially during the nights. The room had a veranda in front and even if there was a heater in there, it was always cold and the owner reluctant to turn it on and, unfortunatelly, it was snowing in London. The bathroom was a freezer. It was very unpleasant to shower in the morning or to even enter the bathroom. Internet was not working in our room.
First impression was not good. Staff didn't show us where we were eating in morning or tell us times etc not very talkative but were pleasant if you engaged with them.
Based on room 11:
Bad wi-fi signal strength.
Sometimes it was quite cold in the room(in November). No bathroom, only shower.
Temperatute in room was difficult to regulate.
Bathroom is always damp.
Most sullen miserable people ever, especially the breakfast cook. Don't expect two of you to order and eat together! Rooms not serviced adequately i.e. bins not even emptied daily. No surface areas to be put things on. We were in the garden annexe so very basic and the bathroom (shower only) is horrible with a hand size sink only. All in all, really disappointing.
