Staff were the key. I left my iPad on the train from Sendai, and they jumped into action, calling the local station, getting me the contact details in Tokyo Station. Loved the feel of the place, rather backpacker, but comfortable. Food was good, but not exotic. Room was a bit tight, but it was a budget option. Loved the owners, both John and the lady who runs the in town hotel (Nikko Park?),where we dropped our bags, having arrived early. Loved the ingenuity of the ensuite, you will know what I mean if you stay. Nikko, and surrounds, are great to visit.

No Onsen, but one nearby, I was told, but didn't try it myself.

Very cosy hotel! Located not far from JR Nikko Station (it took us about 20-25 minutes walk to reach it). The comfort and design of the hotel is very good. It is very romantic and relaxing. The staff is polite, English-speaking and friendly. The owner helped us with the route in Nikko, gave us map and lantern to go to the mountains to see sunrise. The rooms are bright and well-decorated. Three warm blankets are on the bed. Cookies and muffins in the lobby are very delicious

The owner and staff were very nice and friendly and they speak English!! Very nice, homey stay.

Breakfast choices were minimal, but then it was a home-themed lodge so Im not really complaining.

Budget hotel with atmosphere in quiet nature surrounding close to the historical monuments.

Comfortable room, convenient location, hotel food looked good though we ate in town. Enjoyed seeing the shrines & sites. Sorry we had only 1 day to see it all.

Distance from town/shrines--having to walk up & down hills--10 minutes is an underestimate!

Located in a scenic area. There is a shuttle service from the station, but if you want a 10-minute walk away. The rooms are very comfortable. The dormitories have a heated blanket. The decor is homely. Loved the little fireplace in the lobby. The staff is very friendly. very cozy.

Nikko Park Lodge Mountainside was a really cosy, quiet and convenient place to stay, not to mention really friendly. It was away from the main street in a beautiful wooded area and yet still only a 10 minute short jaunt down to the main station area (or there was a shuttle bus provided for people with less motivation than us!). The main area is just perfect for sitting around and relaxing, playing card games, reading, getting the local knowledge... The meals were great (honestly some of the best available in Nikko), as are the meals at the other place run by Nikko Park Lodge down by the station (highly recommend the curry!) The owner, Ken, is a fountain of knowledge for all the best places to go and see in the wider Nikko area; pick his brains for where to go!

Nothing to not like. I've stayed here before and will continue to choose to stay here on future trips to Nikko.

Small sweet hotel with impressive mountain view. If you don't know where to go, ask on reception, and you'll get complete guide to Nikko. Sad that we stayed only for one night.

very out of the way. they provided shuttle service on the first day we went we check-in, but on the second day, they told us there isnt any shuttle service even though it is roughly around the same time (about 4+pm).

Excellent customer service; staff speaks excellent English so communication was a non-issue; Mr Ken the owner is super-friendly and we enjoyed his company very much.

Location is quite a ways from the train station, so a little bit of hiking will be needed if you missed the last bus. Had some water heating issues the evening we arrived but were fixed later that night.

It was kind of weird place. Staff acted strangely. We didnt like the breakfast. We wouldnt stay again.

beautiful surrounding, it is in a big green park friendly host

no bus to the lodge, but the host pick you up and send you to the station daily on schedule

The people running the place were young foreigners, so English is not a problem. Also very clear and willing to provide the information I needed.

It was weekend and it's a lodge filled with young people. The whole place was very quiet, too quiet for a saturday night.
