  Definitely did not think it was as bad as some of the earlier reviews make out. In terms of value for money and location it was the best place we stayed in Rio de Janiero (private double room with bathroom and really good air conditioning in a convienient location). Staff were friendly. Felt secure and safe (there was a locked gate on the front at... vad folk säger » night for security). It wasn't noisy. - Staff tried to be helpful. It was very close to SDU airport. It was a very humble budget hotel.

  Rooms were spartan but clean, bed was very comfortable (I like a hard bed), location is right downtown so you don't have to go far to get anything.   We booked our room without balcony, but we ended with the room wiht balcony looking at the Sugar Loaf mountain. What a nice surprise! Our room was really clean, spacious and cozy with our own fridge. Breakfast is basic with the choice of savoury or sweet, but is served on the roof terrace and that was very nice.   Ok, this is not a five-star hotel, but they don't charge a five-star price either. My opinion is, you get exactly what you pay for. It's in Lapa, this means it probably used to be in a slum. It is not in a slum now. It is 50 meters from Selaron staircase, a famous landmark. It is a vibrant neighborhood, so maybe it's not ok for children -- I would... vad folk säger » n't know. We're a reasonably young couple, and for us it was just perfect. Stuff are very helpful, they do speak English (I was prepared to resort to - Good location in Lapa, not far away from the Arcos da Lapa or Cinelandia station. A rather tidy room.
