Cataract Gorge is only 3 km away, and Launceston Airport is a 20-minute drive. Waratah offers individually decorated rooms with high ceilings and many original features from 1862. All rooms come with a flat-screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Many rooms also feature a hot tub and views of the city or Tamar River. The Waratah on York is described as elegant and it is. The Manager is very friendly and made us feel comfortable. She also recommended a restaurant in the city which offered excellent food at a discounted price. An excellent buffet breakfast is included and served in dining room with a great view down into the city. Our room was located in the newer building Arreca at the rear of the historic Waratah building - the bed and the pillows were heavenly and made the stay worthwhile. Michael the chef was most accommodating and pleasant and cooked very tasty breakfasts. Janine took care of us and was most helpful and efficient.
alla recensioner » If you like the historic feel then this was just perfect. Very lovely and well fitted out. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel is small and intimate and we loved the history. The view was great. Set on a hill there were parklands and a great view over the river and hills. So close to town, walking distance for tea and a few drinks. The room was amazing and the bed was to die for so comfortable. The staff where lovely and breakfast was fantastic and fresh. Highly recommend to stay here, will defiantly be going back. The service and friendly staff attention to our needs was wonderful. The room was spacious and very comfortable and great value for money including breakfast. Definitely recommend Waratah on York in Launceston for somewhere central to stay. Breakfast was good - the service was great. I left my iphone charger at another hotel and the receptionist went out of her way to find a charger for me to borrow overnight. Good location for the city. We were 2 couples staying in Rooms 3 and 4 -both rooms were large and nicely decorated, bathrooms also very clean and comfortable. Place was just a little old, not in the heritage way in the " few bit of cracked tiles and wallpaper tears" kinda I've been used a fair bit kind if way, not that it deminishes the visit at all. The heater was noisy. Parking was tight but at least available. Occasional furniture in room was tired, mismatched and worn. had to leave to go home. Nothing. A lot of stairs if your staying in the old part of the hotel, especially to the top floor.... the heater didn't work - we were given another to cope the TV remotes are in Chinese with no instruction on how to use. Decor a bit tired. Because of the many steps to the hotel we were put in the new addition below that did not require hiking up a steep hill. Car parking very tight and access steep, best to park on street. Having to carry suitcase up steps. there are a lot af stairs from the Carpark to the rooms. Street downhill to car park, takes you by surprise. No fan heater in room but I could have asked but didn't. Nothing. New suite, but a little cramped. nil. Walking back up the hill from town. The bed was a little soft, I prefer a firmer mattress, back was a little saw the next day. No airconditioning. Didn't like the fact that the old home was in the advert but we were put in a modern building across the road. This was misleading. key failed to open night door. 4 questions?..... Who can't count. Was a bit old and dated for th price in need of refurbishment.
