The pension is a 19th century house owned by a family. Our 4 day stay
was wonderful. The staff was beyond helpful by offering us a map and
along with recommendations of where to eat. The bathroom is shared but
there are two bathrooms with a shower and toilet and one without a
toilet only with the shower on the first floor we stayed at and it never
seemed like a downside. Our room was cleaned everyday and the sheets and
towels were changed. Their bed was the most comfortable bed with

The room was small but comfortable and very clean. We booked a room with a private bathroom which had a very small but functional shower. The balcony looked down the tiny narrow street and there was a great city top view from the roof terrace which would be perfect for sipping a cold beer or glass of wine. The staff were very friendly and there was someone at the front desk 24hrs/day. Perfect location for exploring the old town and nice and close to the beautiful square in front of the Cathedra.
I would highly recommend this Hotel for couples young and old (my partner and I stayed for a few days, and he loved it), the location is excellent, staff very friendly and accommodating, and on top of all that excellent value for money! This place is 1 min from the city centre and a short walk from any of the historical/tourist spots. Also, very comfortable mattress!!.
The pension has a lot of character and is well located near to the train station and just off one of the main squares. It's also very well maintained and spotlessly clean. The roof terrace, with a part-view of the cathedral, is a definite bonus. All in all, the Pensión España is excellent value for money and a real find.
The location in the historical center is perfect for visiting Cadiz. The house is beautiful, clean and very inviting, the staff very nice. There is the possibility to park the car at 5 -10 minutes walk. We do highly recommend it.
Great location convenient for the port and the old town. Friendly, well run and clean. I also liked that there was a kettle and a selection of teas in the room, and an electric fan which was most welcome given the hot weather.
Receptionist was good English speaking, and helpful. Location is briliant. Hotel is in Typical Andalusian style. The rooms was clean, so as bathroom. Amazing value for money.

The building.
Very clean rooms/bathrooms and good position of the hotel, exactly in the old center of Cadiz.
The Wifi was working good from the rooms.
Due to the router being outdated one must go the lounge to get WiFi but
it can also be obtained from the hallway of the first floor.
The garbage collection truck comes at 3 in the morning and is SOO loud! It was brutal.
Also the wifi is only accesible in the lobby which isn't really a big deal.
The only problem was the amount of noise from the street the pension is on and adjoining streets, but I suspect that this is a common problem in Cadiz where the very narrow streets channel and amplify sound.
Like in most old Spanish houses, the windows of many rooms are facing the court. Therefore it becomes warm at night in the room. Walls are quite thin, but also that is normal for this kind of houses. Nevertheless it was quiet and we slept very well.
It would be nice if guests could have a key to the building door. I felt quite uncomfortable having to wake up the owner to get in late at night. The door to the terrace is also locked at night, which means there is no way to go outside for a smoke once the owner is asleep.

The beds were rock hard, neither I nor my friend could get a good night's rest even after a full day out and about in the city.
- My room was beside the staircase. People from the staircase can see inside the room if I open the window and curtain.
- No amenities provided at all except the hand soap.
It was very small. The internet did the not reach the rooms! So you had to go downstairs in the lobby. The bathrooms had glass in the walls, so you could see into and out of the bathroom (which may be a little awkward with strangers or your mother in law)...
No breakfast. Shared bathrooms far from bedrooms, but didn't
sour our stay!.
Room had only a little window to a very small backyard.
Noisy. The building is chopped in a way to allow more rooms, which are made of .. paper probably. And it's noisy not because of the street or parties: but you can hear, simultaneously, the conversations and any other noise and business of ALL the surrounding rooms. Virtually no privacy.
Tough to find without a decent map - visit info office before trying
No A/C so very noisy at night - especially with the window open because of the heat.

We could absolutely not sleep. Our room had a window (if we can call it like this) to the interior stairs of the hotel and you can not see at all outside from our room (Number 12). We also heard everybody who walk an the stairs, what they were talking...definitely not recommended for a good sleep.
