We found and booked this hostel through letsbookhotel.com for the first two nights, and decided that if it was not suitable we will change to another one. However, after arrival, we found it was really a lovely hotel. We lived in Room 71, and it was really nice one. Then we decided to continue to stay in this hotel for the rest of our journey in Cairns. Finally, we totally stayed seven nights there. -
Fantastic hostel, spotlessly clean, all staff incredibly friendly and full of great advice - also great pool, kitchen, free WiFi in reception (hard to find in Cairns) lovely spot at end of esplanade, pleasant 5-10 min walk along esplanade to city and free dinner at backpacker pub! I stayed in dorm and private and found both comfortable and good value - fridge in both room types a bonus. The service from Peter the manager was excellent. When we arrived there,
my girlfriend was ill, he made a couple of phonecalls to doctors free of
charge. When we got back at the hostel, he saw that my girlfriend was
still not feeling better, so he upgraded our double room to a better
room away from all the noise from the reception. Thanks a lot for this
excellent service Peter and the rest of the staff!

I was travelling with my 84 yr old mother and hadn't booked anywhere. We were a bit apprehensive but we're so welcomed and felt very safe. The accomodation has no frills but the cleanliness was 100% compared to some 4*hotels we stayed in. Appearances can be very deceptive. Staff were extremely respectful, professional and friendly.

Awesome garden area with hamics, a bbq with tables and chairs etc.
Huge guest kitchen with everything required should you wish to cook your own meals.
Everything was very clean.
Overall very reasonable for the price. -
The grounds of the hostel are just beautiful. We arrived in the evening and the late checking service was well organised.

Our stay at the Friendly Hostel was fantastic. Gary was immediately helpful and attentive when he picked me and my girlfriend up from the bus station.

Spotlessly clean units each having shared facilities. Good accessibility to esplanade and trips to Fraser Island and Whale Watching. Gary was extremely helpful in giving us advice and booking our trips for us.

Charming, quaint and quiet. We have been to Ryan's Rest twice and will continue to book rooms there whenever we visit Cairns. Our well mannered little dog was as welcome as we were. That is a huge plus in our books. -

Location near airport, good if your arriving by plane and just staying few nights. A bit of from action in Coolangatta, but distance is still walkable.
