At the spur of the moment, my wife and I were looking for a place to stay in Catalina. We found the best deal at the Hermosa through the internet. We weren’t expecting the Ritz. The Hermosa is an historic hotel. That means it’s been around a while. We stayed in one of the cottages. It was very small but charming. It was a warm room, the bed was soft and comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. For the price, what more could you ask for? Joseph checked us in and took good care of us during our stay. And when we were ready to take the boat home, Joseph gladly gave us a ride to the boat dock. We would certainly stay again.
awesome helpful staff, they also allow you to leave your baggage after you check-out in case you wanted to do more activities before your boat ride back home.

There was only one outlet in the room. It would have been nice to have an outlet next to the mirror so to make it easier to straighten my hair.
I loved this quaint hotel, the antiques that they have throughout the décor, the use of the luggage room while you aren't officially checked in, the use of a computer so you don't have to lug your laptop there, and the close proximately to what I consider the heart of the town.
Some of the cottages are so close to the street you can hear the golf carts - the main mode of transportation on the island - whizzing by late at night. Also, a fair amount of the hotel is up a series of stairs with no elevator, so those who don't climb well might want to avoid this.
Great vibe, friendly staff, charming period building with comfortable rooms. Prices are rock bottom for Avalon.

Comfortable beds. Wonderful extras. There's a room by the lobby for microwaving and eating, and extra showers and bathroom for us to use after we had to check out of our private room. It felt like a friendly youth hostel, taking care of our needs. Storage room for our baggage until we got on the boat home. VERY HELPFUL!

The "cottage" is very tiny and the bed very uncomfortable. Also, when the room was cleaned, there was always something that was forgotten, like towels or soap. And there is no phone so that made for another walk to the front desk.

Staff was nice. It was nice being able to drop off our gear prior to having an assigned room. It was nice being able to leave gear in storage room after checking out, and to use the shower after snorkeling before getting on the ferry back home.
Rooms dated, and small. But they were clean.

Scotty was very helpful and friendly. The hotel is budget priced and family friendly and just 1/2 block from the water and right in the middle of Avalon.

Loved the staff and the location to town. Was very old in a quaint sort of way. Freshly painted and kept up.
Was on a busy street and found it a bit noisy. The bed was a bit lumpy. I heard rom others that the noise was less inside the actual hotel portion. We were in a cabin. Would try the other part next time.

Location was excellent, staff were lovely, helpful, gave us a shuttle back to the ferry. Right on the front, right next to the market. No complaints.
The price was very inexpensive, so what can you expect? There are new owners I understand undertaking a series of upgrades. Our room hadn't been done yet. Guestimate 1950's kitchen units, real funky and small room/cottage? We laughed at the funkiness, noisy heater, no bedside lamps, glaring (had to take 3 of the 4 bulbs out of the) overhead light/fan. Still had a fab time. If you don't mind funky ... go for it.

reasonable price at a top location - historic charming place
A hot shower, bed, and quite atmosphere is all you need when snorkeling/diving/beaching/kayaking all day.
Its not a "resort", its just a place to bed down for the night.
The room was clean & comfortable.
Female staff was very rude to my Daughters. The Hotel water was turned off for several hours without any notice to the guests & the staff knew this was going to take place.

How close to everything. The fact that they let you leave your bags in before checking because we for there at 10 and they let us check in and leave our bags way earlier. They also have showers and bathrooms for when you check out and walk around you can leave your bags there go do something and come back to shower before you get back on the boat. Also the service there aka staff was really friendly and great.
The bathroom need a face lift. And the accommodations are bare bones. But it was the cheapest on the island so we got what we paid for. All in all it was a great time at the hermosa

Close to harbor and restaurants
We were in a cottage which was shabby and very cramped. Sink in bedroom and no hand towels or wash clothes
Shopping, the grocery store that was located right next to it. The view was great.
Stairs, stairs, stairs and more stairs. We had drove over 2,ooo miles and took a boat ride to get there and then had to climb 3 flights of stairs. With 8 bags, no help, I didn't mind climbing the stairs but was mad as hell when there was no help what so ever when we arrived. We had came a long way to be there, and I really would have given someone a big tip if they had helped me with my bags. 1St time and last.

The proximity to the beach. Not really fronting the beach but not far from it. We were allowed early check-in and had our luggage stored in the hotel after check out before our late return trip.
The shower curtain is flimsy(home-sewn). When somebody takes a bath water escapes out through sides of curtain and wets the floor outside. The unit below us complained that water drips on them. Dirty floor mops are drying on the fence and not hidden.The place needs renovation. With the rate they are charging it should be better looking even just the inside. Oh and the mirror in the bathroom is hanging on the side of the counter top. One has to climb up to use it.

the location is great. The staff is wonderful and the accommodations were perfect for my mother, my three children and myself.
