superb chef, the food was awesome!! Location was great, staff were friendly and welcoming and helped us with directions!

It took us over an hour to find the hotel, its not very well sign posted

Almost everything;but see below.

Couldn't find the Hotel's front door; where the heck is it. I arrived on foot and had to come in via the winding carpark entrance and even then, found it difficult to find my way about the Hotel. Perhaps better and clearer signs in the street and in the Hotel would help. The place is also rather badly lit. Just seen "Complaints" notice and did complain about the lack of insufficient signs.

excellent evening meal and breakfast. Very friendly and helpfull staff. Position of hotel right in middle of city. Ideal for shops and night life Do not need your car once there and no charge for parking .

Our room was on the side of hotel right near centre for night life and noisey until early hours. Could be a problem for some people but maybe it is worse on a Saturday night night.

The location was absolutely perfect for us as we were on a night out andit took just minutes walk to the bars and club we went to, it was alsojust a short walk from the train station. Also, the staff were very kindand helpful and even let us leave our bags there after we'd checked outas our train wasn't until late. The beds were very comfy as well.

It was very central and lots going on around. The breakfast was great.

The plumbing in our room could have been better. The water was slow to run away in the sink and bath.

Central location to city centre and shops. Easy walk to all transport facilities, bus, train and metro line. Nice friendly staff.

Clean room comfortable beds plenty clean towels. Staff very helpful. Breakfast good waitress good and very efficient.

Basin in bathroom cracked water in bath did not run away when taking shower no tea bags in room had to ask at reception. Tv reception not good.

Post code on rhe website was for the back door and in busy traffic it took along time to find because its such a small door under a big shopping centre sign

Why don't they allow you to bring food to the room. This is ridiculous.

Excellent but please make the entrance more visable I was looking forthe hotel by the picture on the web which we couldnt find only to findout that the picture was at the back of the hotel and the actualentrance is a door way inbetween two shops!!!!!

The Newgate is central for all the shops, restaurants and pubs good parking and good value. I stayed for a week and would happily go back.

We liked the staff, they were helpful at all times, it was a verycentral location, but not easy to find as it is amongst shops.

the hotel has clean comfortable rooms, and 24 hour reception so no lockout!

expensive for food and drinks (though to be expected), bar closed early- it was our first trip to newcastle so we weren't familiar with where other bars were, and after returning from a boyzone gig on a high, we wished to relax with a quiet drink and were told only room service was now available, it wasn't that late.

Could have done with a bit of refurbisment, a bit worn in certain areas. Regarding reviews, I can could see some negative points being relevant in peak times due to location, but my experience was more with the positive reviews on this ocassion.

Cleanliness.. nice white bedding. Room was a good size and had facilities we needed

The wallpaper was awful in that there were marks on the wall, tears. Also the ceiling paint was cracked which was a shame as it did let the hotel down. Also how difficult it was to get to the car park.

We stayed for a meal in the restaurant on the evening. The food was absolutely excellent, an improvemnet on previous stays. The staff were also excellent.

We arrived at 14.40 hours for a 14.00hr check in and were told the room was not ready. The receptionist then decided to check and the room was ready, rather unnecessary we thought.
