It is situated in the picturesque village of Houghton Conquest, just 15 minutes’ drive from Bedford city centre and main line rail station of Ampthill. Countryside walks can be enjoyed in the surrounding area, or venture into Bedford to enjoy sights such as St Paul’s Square, River Great Ouse or Embankment Gardens. An en suite bathroom, free Wi-Fi and a TV are provided in each room at The Knife & Cleaver, and some come with a king-size bed. A fine dining restaurant serving a wide variety of modern British classics is available on-site, as well as a terrace for alfresco dining and drinking. A range of real ales can be enjoyed in the bar or in the beer garden.

Staff great : old fashioned hospitality and humour. A return to the UK of old; a 'local pub' with a welcome for folks from away. Food was absolutely excellent and worth the trip by itself. Rooms were immaculate. Graham and Terry, have created something with enormous appeal, - a return to 'hosts' of a previous almost forgotten age. They have created a team with a sense of family that are a tribute to them both. We should recommend them, their staff, their kitchen and their facility to anyone .
todos opiniões » Both comfortable and cosy, rooms were clean, modern and toasty warm, necessary as it was a very cold weekend. All needs catered for. Breakfast very good. A bit out of the way but my family lived in the next village with no suitable accommodation so this fit the bill perfectly. Will definitely stay again. Perfect place for 52nd reunion of 10 friends. The facilities, the food, the service and the staff could not have looked after us better for two nights. Best place within easy reach of Bletchley Park. Highly recommended. We enjoyed the friendliness of the staff yet they were never intrusive but always considerate and helpful. We would certainly return when necessary. A good and happy place to stay. The feel of the place, the lovely lights outside on the patio area and the wide selection of food. The staff were really welcoming and as a solo female traveller it was nice. The atmosphere together with friendly and efficient attitude of staff. Excellent red wine with tasty snack lunch. Very clean and comfortable room. Equally tasty breakfast. The rooms were fine except the shower in one room was faulty and cold. There were a couple of niggles, however the Management and staff went out of their way to fix the issues. Excellent customer service. Service and quality of accommodation. Dinner was good at extra cost. Nothing. Stay too short!. Not a dislike but a wider selection of rose would be good, and it was not possible to work at the table in my room as the seat was too small and the desk not really set up to use- the light outside the door was also annoying as I could not find the switch and it was the only light pollution in the room- even with the blinds down. It would also be good to be able to help yourself to the cereal and juice in the breakfast room.. The sad fact that I had to leave on Sunday morning to return home. Our room (no. 5) didn't have sufficient lighting. Both the bedroom and bathroom lighting was too dim. Not sure how you would be able to improve it with the limited room in the bedroom - but - a couple of relaxing chairs would have been welcomed. Staff a little cool. Messy tap/shower contraption! (Presumably stylish but pretty useless.). We dined in the restaurant and found the dessert disappointing, ordered rhubarb crumble with custard which had been heated in the microwave; crumble soggy and custard lumpy!. no complaints!. The dinner prices were a little steep. The WiFi did not work in my room. As I travel with work, this is essential for me. The WiFi did work in the bar area, but this is obviously subject to the bar being open. The weather. no problems ?. no dislikes. Chilly in the ensuite bathroom and the bathroom floor was cold. Perhaps a larger mat would help. Pricey drinks. Everything was what we wanted. Personally, I found the mattress a little firm!. Nothing. wifi didnt work. Food prices rather high. They advertise as having WiFi. During my stay the WiFi in the bar was not working and the WiFi in the rooms is very weak and very slow. It is hard to do much more than emails with it. The fact that no food/pub facilities were available on Sunday night. If this had been made apparent we would not have chosen to stay there as the price didn't reflect the available facilities. As the pub was closed on the Sunday night the problem with the shower could not be reported until the next morning so the problem could not be dealt with and only apologies could be made.As a result we would perhaps use it again but definately not on a Sunday!. Wifi didn't work Issue with hot water but problem was resolved immediately. A little pricey and breakfast quite sparse. Room was smaller than we expected, and shower room was a tight squeeze. Welcome was off hand Free Wi fi did not work in the room, which was the main reason we had chosen this hotel. Not good value.
