The hotel is nice specially the chourfa room, it makes you live the Moroccan style!
The city is so bad, unsafe and unclean. I will not visit it again!
Idyllic hotel, very attentive staff. We had the roof terrace which was amazing.
It's in the Kasbah, which on one hand is part of the mystique, but it can be a bit overwhelming, and difficult to escape the tourist touts.
I searched for a while for a suitable hotel, normally my husband and I book into a 5 star resort or luxury self catering when we have the children (2,6) with us. This trip was adults only and I wanted accommodation that really represented the best of Morocco. Dar Sultan definitely delivered! If you want to stay in a cozy, clean, romantic, hideaway that oooozes character and charm then this is the place. We spent a lot of time chilling out in our roof top room with undeniably the best view of the Kasbah, Medina and coast. If I was to return to Tangiers and would chose to stay here again.
Neighbours peeing over the roof terrrace. Water pressure not the best (ladies take some dry shampoo). No room service - Excellent breakfast served on the terrace and the evening food smelled amazing. There are very little options nearby for lunch and snacks. We ate at the El Morocco Club (3 times) faultless. Can't pay by card, hotellier walked us to cash point. Tangiers isn't ideal for site seeing, too many people (adults and children). Hassling for money.
The rooms were uniquely furnished with colorful textiles, rugs and antiques. Treats were left for guests each day and rose petals scattered about on the bedclothes. The rooftop lounge area gave good views. Location quiet and convienient. Included breakfast was to die for. Real care was taken for our every comfort. Very clean and charming house cat.
Very charming guesthouse. Must definitely be able to manage steep stairways which seem to be the norm in all the guesthouses in the Medina. Plus side: location in the medina, easy to walk around or take taxis, very copious breakfast - just ask if you have a preference in what you eat but between the baked goods, fruits, juices, eggs, jams - it is all there to enjoy on the attractive patio. rooms vary in size - the one I occupied had an airconditioning unit. The rooms are very clean with moroccan decorations, cheerful. The attendant was there all night and helpful with directions and luggages, etc. I felt safe and the owner even found a plug (EU - France type) for my kindle device lending me his IPhone charger. All in all a wonderful place in a great location. Plan for an excellent meal at Nord Pinus restaurant (300 Dhm) if you can afford it - great all around. The guesthouse has a very helpful plan of the city and Medina - ask for a copy. Although you probably do not need a car, we rented one and access to the garage was practical and free. Plan on visiting the Museum in the Medina; surprising garden and excellent carvings typical of the region.
Negative side: I wished the deck bedroom had been available for more privacy. Low ceiling in some room (Malabata) - my husband wasn't with me but at 6'6 could hot have handled it standing straight. My observation is that the service was great but you must make a point of asking for what you need. Not much proactive questioning / pointing you in the right direction. I saw the owner once - maybe it was vacation time for them too.
