Clean, comfortable, convenient, and cheap! I stayed 2 nights on the weekend of a major festival (the Guelaguetza), and I only paid $25 (US) for the whole package! Can't beat the price. And they give you free breakfast. The staff are great: friendly, helpful and accommodating. They made it a real pleasure to be there! The ambiance with it's brightly painted patio, and tropical plants--including a real, live banana palm--hammock, patio table, sun chairs, etc. was picture perfect and welcoming. There were free salsa lessons on Sat. night with a professional, award-winning instructor, and a free movie on Sun. evening in the patio. Our room was cleaned every single day. We were also asked if there was any way in which they could help or give advice for our trip. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I wanted to do a weaving Workshop with an indegenous Family and Edwin made everyhing happen for me. That was awesome. Both, Silvia and Edwin are so sweet. It's a pleasure to stay there. I actually wanted to stay for 2-3 nights but I ended up with 1 week. It's a very chill place with a garden and open kitchen. I recommend it to everyone I meet going to Oaxaca. This was a great hostel and I loved my stay in Oaxaca. It's a wonderful little city. Good breakfast, nice dorms, I met other friendly travellers and the hostel was very beautiful. There was nothing about the hostel itself that we didn't like, but one has to get used to fireworks going off in the middle of the night, and roosters crowing at odd times when in Latinoamerica. In reference to Azul Cielo, I do not have any complaints. The matresses in the 8-mix-dorm were a bit hard for me. But I experienced similar ones in other hostels in Mexico too. Only thing I was unclear about was how late I was allowed to return to the hostel. I woke up a staff member one morning coming back at 5am, and I wasn't really sure if the hostel was 24 hours or not. 8 blocks from the Zócalo, but that's not really so much. Not that I disliked it, but it's a pretty long walk from the busstation and not very close to the Zocalo. Neighbours dogs barking alot..walls block no sound if want to sleep. No reading lamps close to the bad. No switcher close to the bed so you have to get up to switch off the ligth before get to sleep. double room facing the street can be a bit noisy, although i was waking up early to visit around so that would not bother me too much. it's about 15min walking distance from the center, but city it's safe at nigth so it's not a big issue. if you are a couple i think a double here is pretty good and quite but ask for the room facing the inner garden. Very basic lighting in room and switch a long way from the bed.No reading lamp.Generally very basic amenities.Guests expected to do their own washing-up after breakfast. Waited from 8:00 to 9:00 to see the staff show up. So slow that we decided not to have breakfast. Then found a much better hotel nearby for the same money.
