Children will be charged normal adult rates unless they are infants who can share a bed. Tucked away in a quiet cobblestone alley of Kyoto, Maeniiya Machiya Inn appears to be an old Japanese townhouse, but take one step in and you’ll notice that the seemingly traditional house is equipped with all the modern facilities that will make your holiday more comfortable. This traditional, 2-storey wooden house with tatami (woven-straw) flooring provides free WiFi, towels and linens. At the terrace you can take a minute to sit down with a cup of green tea and enjoy the tsuboniwa (small courtyard garden). On the ground floor are the bathroom and the living room with a flat-screen TV with cable channels and a DVD player. The seating area, furnished with a kotatsu (low, leg-warming table) and seating cushions, will help you unwind after a long day walking around. The 2 bedrooms are located on the upper floor. The fully-equipped, contemporary kitchen adds to the convenient amenities that Machiya Maeniiya will offer you and your family. It also has a washing machine, and free-use bicycles, so you can explore the old capital at your own pace. Car hire can be arranged for your convenience. The Shijo Karasuma intersection is just a 10-minute walk away, from where you can continue to walk down the bustling arcade towards the Shijo-Kawaramachi shopping district. Supermarkets, convenient stores, cafes and restaurants are all accessible within a 5-minute walk.
