We booked the smallest and cheapest available room (the double studio). When we arrived, finding our keys and room was very easy.
The room was small but very clean - the bedding smelt very fresh. We also saw a family studio which was bigger and again very clean and pleasant.
I asked to upgrade our room as I wanted a bit more space (the prices are very reasonable and I was happy to pay more). However when the owner and Thora heard it was the last leg of our honeymoon, they upgraded us to a 3 bed

We stayed in the Vatnsstigur 11 building, which is perfectly located just off the main street Laugevegur - close to everything, but not disturbed by nightlife at all. The location is very good as it is very close to the shops, church, grocery and iceland excursions terminal and main office. Room 504 is really nice with kitchen, balcony, living room and 2 single beds. I was very happy with the kitchen because it's got everything! We checked in really late which was not a problem. we we dead tired and found the most comfortable beds I have ever had in a hotel.
The pace was peaceful and quiet, which was great since we were traveling with our 2 young children, 3 years old and 2 months old.
Breakfast the next morning was very nice.
Will definitely stay here again!

This place must be the best value in Reykjavik. I walked into my room and had a mini-jaw drop as I saw the quality of the furnishings, the comfortable bed, the NEWness of everything, and a well-stocked kitchenette. Breakfast is a tray of goodies - bread, jams, cheese. They also provide cartons of milk and orange juice that you are free to use up.

Everything was great - clean, spacious, comfortable, well-equipped (wifi in room, kitchen facilities, ipod dock), and the bath was lovely. The staff were friendly & helpful, dealing with some of my tourist queries including phone calls to local tour companies. The location is very central and you can walk to all shopping, bars, restaurants, harbour etc. Most tour companies pick up and drop off outside the hotel.

the two staff members worked there socks off to keep all guesrs happy - The staff was extremely helpful in having the room ready at early arrival (arriving with a 3-year old child after a night flight made really all the difference!), providing us with information, and making taxi reservation for us. We rented the studio apartment for a week. We were making a first visit to the University. Innkeeper Thorri was very helpful and kind. As we walked around Reykjavik, we never saw a better value for this level of amenities and character. We love staying in historic and cultured homes like Gastafell. The 1 bedroom apartment was fully equipped and in a wonderful quiet location but literally minutes from everything. Breakfast was excellent.
