  The hotel building was very impressive, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was superb and the food was excellent. Ideally placed for us, as we were attending the March & Rally for Scottish Independence on Calton Hill that weekend. We only stayed two nights and didn't have time to use the spa/pool but it looked really nice.   The decor was great in the hotel. Was lovely and the staff friendly and helpful. It felt tremendously homely and the bed was so comfortable. Went for the weekend ghost hunting and the hotel added to the ambience. The bath had jets in it and since Edinburgh is so hilly sorted out our weary legs. Would definately go again and recommend. Some of the reviews I had read portrayed the hotel badly, I would say totally ignore this - it is a great hotel.

The location is excellent, walking distance to all attractions. There are road works going on, but these won't interrupt your stay and should be over soon. We were greeted on arrival in a friendly way and shown our very clean and spacious room, with bathroom ensuite. Our host offered an excellent recommendation for a pub for dinner.
