This YHA hostel is set in a beautifully converted 240-year-old former granary. This Grade II listed building offers self-catering accommodation with private bathrooms and an art gallery. The YHA Berwick overlooks the River Tweed, and there is direct access to the quay through a tunnel. There are many shops and restaurants within just a 5-minute walk, or guests can follow the Lowry Trail around this historic town. There is a modern, shared kitchen that guests are able to use and a lounge area with a TV. There is also a ground floor bistro open all day, which serves home-cooked snacks, meals and drinks. Berwick-Upon-Tweed is the northernmost town in England, and is surrounded by countryside perfect for walking and cycling. Alnwick Castle, used as Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter films, is a 35-minute drive away.

The design of the hostel within an old granary is an inspired combination of strong, solid tradition with up-to-the-minute facilities, including penthouse self-catering kitchen, dining-room and lounge; downstairs licensed public bistro; art gallery and conference rooms. The staff are alert, positive, friendly and innovative. Berwick Youth Hostel's location combines the huge advantage of being central with the special virtues of being secluded and quiet. wszystkie opinie » This is a very nice hostel in a really cool old building with cool modern furnishings. The staff person on duty was very accommodating when we arrived late, and she was there again in the morning serving breakfast! We booked a family room for us and our two older sons, which worked out well. We even had our own private bath, which is definitely a plus when hosteling. There was even free car parking right outside the door, even though the listing said there wasn't any. Really efficient way to travel first time in a hostel so great advert for british hosteling, would recommend to friends and family. We could do with retoring more of britains old buildings like these instead of putting up these pre-fab ugly buildings!!!!!. It was my first stay at YHA and I was surprised with the great facility and staff. its more like a hotel than hostel except for the bunk beds :) great location and facilities both the restaurant and "self-serve" facilities. Well I booked a twin room with ensuite and everything was great, my first stay in a youth hostel and it was ideal would def stop in one again, cheap cheerfull if you need a good bed a shower and good food,. It's in the middle of the town centre handy for shops and historic places to visit. The staff were very friendly making sure we were comfortable. Lovely breakfast, 20 mins internet for £1 was great. It was my first time staying at YHA for 20yrs. And was pleasantly surprised by the overall facilities, en suite bunk rooms, kitchen and cleanness of the hostel. Was easy to find even in the dark. Seemingly it would have been cheaper for me to book it direct with the hostel?. Had no problems. Just one pillow each, we were late booking in so we made do but two pillows on each bed would be great. Everything else was great. Would be good to have a clock or alarm radio. Shower area requires better drainage as the wet floor and walls never dried - as a consequence there was constant bad smell of dampness and mould in the shower. internet a bit expensive- 20 mins not enough- made things a bit stressful, noisy fan in bathroom in danger of waking others up at night if coming in late etc- eating area could have been a bit more spacious- more tables. Having to move car in morning to long stay car park if not using it during day. the en-suite hadn't been cleaned thoroughly enough for my liking. Smell from shower rather as if drain partially blocked. That food suddenly wasn't available because a group were staying who got priority. More notice would have been helpful - how about a blackboard with notices for the day? Could say kitchen will close at 5.30 pm today so we'd know. Would have liked a shower curtain so that the entite bathroom did not get soaked. All good :-). There are not free internet connection, we should to pay (the value is not so expensive), but I think that the internet could be free. my sat nav didn't like the post code but found it by enterring the address. Is it a local Staff or YH corporate decision to have background music on in lobby permanently (what is the purpose of this?); I love music loud and fast but not in a common room area, where I think it is noise pollution; nobody listens. Expensive WiFi. Some YHA hostels have it free, why is that?£1 an hour seems expensive to me so I went to local library to use it free. Nothing really. The fact that no one had emptied the bins in the kitchen for a few days. Nothing. nothing. Having to make up the bed. Wash basin drains slowly. Bed squeaked rather loudly. Dire music in bistro. Slightly gloomy atmosphere (Could these 2 be linked?!). Not enough hanging space. Organisation at breakfast was poor. Bathroom cleaning could be better layers of dust on pipes. Only stayed one night. not much. Being told in gruff terms how much discount we lost when we first arrived after 10.00PM following a tiring journey. The dining area has a slight echo and the shower drainage in room 401 was blocked. the bathroom had some mold due to poor ventilation from shower rooms seemed dark and low ceilings. £48 for one night+£2 towel rental and having to make my own bed. No TV. Most disappointing was no hot water for a shower at 5 o'clock in the morning.
