It is just across the street from the walled city, specifically right across from the Puerta de la Santa, with a restaurant on the top floor (that being the level of the entrance to the walled city) and lower floors given to reception and the rooms. Rooms are clean, wi-fi connnected, comfortable, and very close to the restaurant. Hotel Puerta just wins with a very good balance between what is offered and what it cost to stay there. And the location is as good as it can ever be!

  I have stayed in three hotels in Ávila, which were all nice, but this one was easily the best! The staff were friendly. I had a lovely room with a view of the square. The place was clean and spacious. The heating was good (for January). The breakfast was high quality. It couldn't be better, and the price was reasonable.   Nice staff, good location and nice decoration and the building itself. - Good location for access to city on foot. Car park on site. Even though I struggle with Spanish language and the staff spoke very limted english, they were most helpful and there we no problems.

  The best hotel I ever stayed in. Located in the heart of the historical part of the city. Feels like you are positioned in the castle. Very clean, very quite. Spacios apartments. I slept well. The hostal offers value for money, it is very central, and the building, an old terraced mansion block, had some character to it. The hotel manager was helpful and friendly, and gave me a great little map & tourist guide of Avila which got me started. The room had a radiator, and overnight the building was quite warm enough.
