They were in the middle of a potato harvest when we arrived in the snow!
Toti greeted us as a farmer and came back 45 minutes later as an
outstanding chef! He provided on of our most memorable meals in Iceland--

This was one of the best if not the best location we have stayed during our holidays in Iceland. Very beautiful landscape, nicely equipped rooms, very helpful staff and superb restaurant. Besides some activities in the area it is also a perfect spot to just relax.
Small remark: If you happen to go to a whale watching tour in Dalvik from here calculate with a drive of 2h, it's 120km. We didn't and it was quite a rush in the end.

After a very busy month participating in work exchange in Akureyri, I
booked a stay at Skjaldarvík the night before I was to fly to Reykjavik.
And I am so happy I did.
This guest house was like heaven on earth. It's outside of town (the perfect distance if you have a car), set next to the fjord, well decorated, tranquil, and surrounded by chickens

We really enjoyed our two night stay at Skjaldarvík Guesthouse. It is situated just off route one, five minute drive from Akureyri. We found the bedroom very comfortable and the shared facilities more than adequate. We decided to dine in the guest house on the first night as the weather had taken a turn for the worse – delighted we did as the food and service were both superb. I’m only disappointed we didn’t dine there on our the 2nd night (I found the local Thai in Akureyri very average). Bre

The hotel is very tastefully furnished. The staff is extremely friendly, very helpful and proud of their place. Excellent breakfast. Unfortunately the restaurant was fully reserved so we didn't have an opportunity to try the 3-course dinner, which sounded truly exquisite. Happy hours on the excellent local Kaldi beer :) -

There's a natural hot spring hot tub in the garden and it's a magical place to star gaze (and even get to see northern lights if you are lucky!). This facility was run smoothly with a friendly. helpful, and knowledgeable staff. It felt like you were part of their family. As an extra attraction, we also toured the old farmsite on the property and learned a lot of history about the area.The view was absolutely fantastic, especially from the hot tub! It was easy to get to the city of Akureyri which is filled museums, shops, and restaurants. We would love to come back again.

I am still amazed of this guesthouse, because it is of the same uniqueness, that also brands the whole area around it! The staff was incredibly helpful (they would have planned our whole two days in this area perfectly for us, if we wanted them to!) and open minded.
The breakfast was very good as well. But the most incredible part are the rooms themselves: You get such a good and cosy (and also romantic) feeling, once you enter your floor-heated, wooden-made room, that you don't want to leave
