Really great guy running the joint. You can tell he is a happy man. His English is good enough to help with pretty much everything. Shame Datong's really a bit of a hole...great place to stack up on small rolls of toilet paper for the train ride out though, just ask at the counter. If you're to see one thing whilst in Datong, definitely check out

location is good, entrance a bit misleading through a baby-clothing shop. on the main shopping street so might be loud in the evenings, but Datong is not very lively at night so the street was not disturbing at all. internet working, clean, air-con working. good beds.

Lovely comfortable rooms, majority of reception staff speak english and are very helpful, breakfast has some western alternatives as well as traditional chinese. Highly recommend restaurant across the road called Big Pizza (I think it was) costs CNY 55 for large buffet option of pizza and chinese dishes as well as tap beer.....value for money!!!!

The hotel was good situated to get to the bus to the Buddha caves, after having a short ride with the taxi. Nearby is a very good (silver) hotpot restaurant with very friendly people, very clean and good quality. You can watch the cooks through a window. The hotel staff spoke English and was very help full for everything.

Contrary to other reviews, the staff were really helpful and their English was sufficient for us to get by......certainly better than our Chinese.

Everything. We've stayed at many hotels in China (including Mercure
and Novotel) and this is, by far, the best we've seen. Rooms are
really luxurious, the facilities are excellent, the food is great and
the staff is extremely efficient and nice. The hotel is also well

Although probably more the standard of a good 4* rather than a 5*, the
hotel was clean, comfortable and efficient. Although some of the junior
staff were a bit clueless, the manageress at reception was superb and
could not have been more helpful. Good buffet breakfast although
difficult to find a free table at times. Room good size and well
furnished.
