You step back into history walking in here - You can feel the atmosphere of an old Hostelry in times gone by - and what a lovely little back terrace to sit and have breakfast or just a coffee. The swimming pool was great in the hot weather - it's not large but you can have a good swim all the same. Breakfast was really tasty and fresh, and the staff were friendly. The beds were comfortable and the room (I was in a twin)was nicely designed and roomy enough. Robes were provided which was great for using the swimming pool. The gardens were nice too.

The place is superb. And would still be at double the price: it's amazingly inexpensive.
Character, comfort, calm, good food (offering both "bar" and "restaurant" menus - from the same kitchen - is a smart way of catering for every budget).
The staff are really excellent and thoughtful.
I can't imagine why anyone would stay anywhere else at Canterbury - or at the channel ports if you are en route to/from there, it's only a minute off the fast road. I certainly won't again.

My partner and I were upgraded and had a wonderful stay in a room with a goregous four poster bed, the bathroom had a lovely jacuzzi bath. The hotel staff were clearly busy but extremely friendly, curteous and welcoming. The hotel restaurant served excellent food and was enjoyed by hotel guests and many locals! The hotel grounds were beautiful.
