  We stayed twice in Helga Guesthouse - at the beginning and end of our trip to Iceland. It is very clean and very well organised, the kitchen has everything you might need and the owner keeps it spotless. Our room was spacious and cosy. The owner is extremely helpful and went out of his way to my our stay a good experience. E.g. when we arrived lat... hva folk sier » e and tired he made a dinner for my young son to spare us a trip to a restaurant. He even helped my son to put his boots on! He is also a taxi driver - Herman, the owner, is incredibly kind, helpful, and warm. We arrived at 1:30am, and he took the time to show us how the bus system worked, maps of the city, and main attractions. He helped us find restaurants, and figure out organization for day trips. He even knows all of the cool ipad apps that tell you bits of information that help for getting around Reykjavik.   The kitchen areas are great. The whole facility is very clean, has good lighting, is heated well and the breakfast offered is very good. One member of the staff ( I don't recall his name, but it starts with the letter j and he's from Sweeden) was exceptionally helpful to us. He was very informative, kind and patient with us. In the camping site there is place for taking things that people left before returning to their countries or leave the things that you cannot carry back.

  The staff were all incredibly nice and helpful, and they make you feel right at home. The facilities were great too (fully-equipped kitchen, hot showers with tub, and free laundry facilities). Generally, I think if you travel alone and don't want to cram into a 16-bed dorm, it's a good place to stay with abundant space and good host to talk with.
