Really great guy running the joint. You can tell he is a happy man. His English is good enough to help with pretty much everything. Shame Datong's really a bit of a hole...great place to stack up on small rolls of toilet paper for the train ride out though, just ask at the counter. If you're to see one thing whilst in Datong, definitely check out the Hanging Monastery.
location is good, entrance a bit misleading through a baby-clothing shop. on the main shopping street so might be loud in the evenings, but Datong is not very lively at night so the street was not disturbing at all. internet working, clean, air-con working. good beds.alle vurderinger »
I liked the location of the place! They also have nice tours that was very cheap compared to what taxi drivers offer. It was also pretty cheap and the staff always tries to be helpful. They got basic stuff all backpackers would need.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was central, close to an important ancient Buddhist temple and an easy place from which to get a taxi to any of the other major temples and historical attractions of Datong.
* excellent service - receptionist helped arrange for a driver to take us to Yungang Grottoes and Hanging Temple; recommended places to eat, drink, etc.
* location wise - quite central, heaps of small food stalls.
Ensuite was nice, staff were helpful even though their English wasn't great. They were able to write me detailed instructions for reaching local attractions via buses. Good location.
Great location (in the middle of the pedestrian street within the walls of the old city, above a kid's store). Staff very helpful even if they don't speak perfect english.
the woman that runs the place was very nice. i spoke chinese to her, so i'm not sure how her english is, but it is a good, no-frills, no-nonsense hostel.
Super location..in the centre of a pedesdrian street..staff very nice and helpfull..we suggest it!.
Really friendly staff ready to do everything that could make your stay more comfortable.
Clean, professional staff, very good internet speed, location in the center.
The location of the hostel is great and the staff were very helpful.
Helpful staff, good tours and excellent location.
Good location, beautiful place.
Yungang Grottos
Hanging Temple.
nice decor.
We needed a place to crash for the night before heading to the Monastery
and Caves, this hostel served its purpose. Clean enough, beds are true
Chinese beds. They were able to get us a private car to see the sites
for the next morning which was great. Staff was really nice, not a ton
of English but helpful none the less.
The rooms were nice and beds were comfortable. The staff was helpful. They can organize and hire a car for you to visit all the places you are interested in.
(The places to sight see are fabulous but the city itself is covered in dust, due to all the constructions happening at the same time around the whole city).
Wifi acces was nice and the beds were comfortable. The staff spoke
English and helped us to book activities in Datong. Other guest were
really nice too. We had a good stay here.
Good value for money, clean and nice rooms. Friendly staff but they can hardly speak English.
Tours can be organized by the hostel to visit Datong and its surroundings.
We liked the Internet access - free PC use and excellent WiFi connection. The free amenities like tooth brush and toothpaste were very nice. Convenient location.
Price was fantastic, they were kind enough to allow us to use showers after check-out and store our luggage. Street hostel is on is fantastic at night.
Great location in the centre of the old town, just south of Huayan Temple. Most of tourist attractions are in a walking distance from the hostel.
The room is large and claen. The staff were ok and speaks english. Is about the only place in city for budget travellers and for hooking up..
Friendly young staff most of the time. It was a place to sleep, nothing too special, but a decent hostel for a good price.
The staff are very friendly , it's convenient to reach several sight-seeing spots.
The staff are always willing to help I never felt like I was bothering them.
Location was good. In the center of old town.
Close to Daton museum.
Datong as a city, some good sites out of the city though. Prepare for steep entry fees to sites.
the toilet is separated from the rest of the room by a glass window (a bit transparent) so if you are not very close with the person you share the room, using the toilet and shower is not intimate at all...
3rd floor without lift, might be a problem for some tourists.
I stayed in 2 different rooms and the first one had reallllly bad smell and the second one was nice, had no problems with that. Would be also nice if they do train and bus ticket reservation as Datong is getting quite popular. Staff were helpful but have limited english.
- could be cleaner.
Ensuite didn't have great privacy. Little hard to find the place to begin with - it's through a clothing store, up some stairs.
Beds are very hard, even by Asian standards.
Rooms open to the common area which can be noisy and with little privacy.
the water pressure in the shower cut in and out, but i was still able to shower. a small inconvenience.
a little smellof the bathroom.
You can barely communicate in English in here.
clogging the toilet.
The ensuite bathroom in the dorm did not get cleaned the whole time we were there (3days) and the toilet leaked. The beds themselves were very clean though.
They do not book train or bus tickets.
Staff almost don't speak English, so sometimes it is hard to get information.
Huge amounts of construction.
the beds.
Bathroom could be a little cleaner and getting dropped off at night is a
little creepy since it hard to find and at night the area is deserted.
The bathroom walls were see-through, so if you travel with friends that are different gender is kind of awkward.
The people in Datong wake up really early, so I recommend to get a room that does not face the street. We woke up every morning at 5, because of the shops' music.
It was really noisy and the toilet did not flush really well. Like in
most budget accomodations in China, it was dirty.
No breakfast. They were not able to tell us where we were on the map...
Very bad smell in the bathroom. Techno music in the street late at night and early in the morning.
The bathrooms were poor and the water would stop mid-shower. The entrance is tbrough a store with baby clothes, which is bizarre.
Toilets were messy.
The staff doesn't speak English, so it's a bit hard to communicate. There is virtually no wifi - it wasn't working during the whole time of my stay! Only AC heating, so it smells pretty bad in the room. The bathroom was in the room, but the door didn't close, so it's not fun if you're staying in a mixed dorm.
High price compared to similar hostels. No bar or music. The location is in the under-recontruction city center so the roads are blocked and after sunset its really hard to find the place by foot..
Having no water in the dispenser. Sold me a used water bottle for 2 RMB.
Bathroom smelled quite bad.
Splitting up men and women.
The staff speak almost no English.
Didn't like our bathroom as it didn't lock properly and it didn't feel very private.
Showers are dirty. Cuz of wrong inforpation in reception i had to pay more for some trip.
Staff barely speak english
All the rooms have cigarrete smoke from people who smoke at the hotel.
Shower and toilet rooms are transparent without a curtain.
Toilet room is too small and you can't close it.
Hard to find, because it is located within a children's clothing store. The rooms are very noisy because the doors open onto a central hall. The cubicle for the shower is really very small, the water from the shower falls on the sink.
