In terms of value for money and location it was the best place we stayed in Rio de Janiero (private double room with bathroom and really good air conditioning in a convienient location).   Ok, this is not a five-star hotel, but they don't charge a five-star price either. My opinion is, you get exactly what you pay for. It's in Lapa, this means it probably used to be in a slum.
