Warm and welcoming, the Highbury Barn is close to the historic market town of Sudbury, which is off the banks of the River Stour, where Gainsborough once sat painting the stunning countryside. Also close are the villages of Long Melford, Lavenham and larger towns such as Colchester and Bury St. Edmunds. Dating back beyond the 16th century, Highbury Barn has kept its character. It has exposed beams and a real log fire, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. Relax after a busy day with a glass of wine, before dining in the fine restaurant, which offers full waitress service and a full range of freshly prepared dishes. All rooms are light with a clean and contemporary style offering tea/coffee making facilities, mineral water, hairdryer, digital TV and free Wi-Fi. Breakfast is included in all room rates. There is sometimes live entertainment on Fridays from local bands until 23:30.

This is a nice and cozy place. Room was nicely decorated and we had a very big and clean bathroom, too (a nice bonus, i could say)! restaurant is nice (big fire place) and food was excellent too!. Excellent food, very clean and quiet.everyone was so helpful and polite. The Lemon Sole was fantastic. friendly staff, good service. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The local people made me feel at home too. I made use of the restaurant and the food was terrific. Jason Shroeder is an amazing chef. The room was spotless with contemporary decor and everything in the room worked! And, they have live music in the bar!! All in all it was very good value for money.

However, once inside it is very pleasant. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was lovely and clean, warm and spacious.We had a meal at the hotel which was excellent as was the breakfast. Would recomend this hotel as a comfortale stop over. The staff where very friendly and food was excellent. We had a lovely short stay, It is being re-furbished at the moment but when completed it will make a 1st class establishment. polite staff always willing to help , nice size bedroom with adequate storage . lovely breakfast in morning and all at a nice affordable price. The rooms are good and clean, breakfast is nice, the refurbishment is very well done...The location was central to my family and friends and my requirements for the week. The food was very good.Staff were quite friendly and helpful at breakfast. They warmed me croissants to eat on the run. On the low side, the windows were not double glazed and we could hear the cars in the street quite loudly. Still, street was not busy at all at night, so didnt have any problems sleeping.Traffic a bit noisy through the old windows. The hotel deserves to be in better surroundings, the local housing estate does little to enhance it. But don't let that put you off, there's not much else to gripe about considering the price of the accommodation.tv reception not very good and did not have freeview as stated. Shared bathroom and nowhere to hang clothes in the room. This pub is popular. So if you want to go to bed at 9pm, you may not get the countryside tranquility that you may be seeking until after closing time! Nevertheless, you can always go the the bar or lounge to see the day out!. unfortunatley carpet was very grubby in restaurant and do holes in ceiling really need brown parcel tape over them and not maybe just fixing ?. The room booked was fine, apart from the fact the bed was broken, although it was newly furnished. the centre support beam of the slatted base bed was completely broken. This was pointed out to the owner, within minutes of our arrival and he put us in another room, smaller room. Although we were put in a smaller double room we still payed for the king sized room. On the website the d room was less. No shower or shower attachment and room window was above smoking area so couldn't open it for air without smoke smell. Very cheap mattress which was quite uncomfortable,. Room over bar so fairy noisy during evening. Access to rooms from diningroom only through bar.The fact that our room was overlooking a very noisy road. I would have reservations about recommending it to others because of the noise. Thin mattress, inferior quality, very uncomfortable. Cold on arrival. Heating was off, but turned on when we asked and soon warmed up. Drinks options in the bar were limited.Our bedroom was over the bar and was very noisy until closing time. Would ask for quieter room if staying in future. heating system was noisey during the night, which made it hard to sleep.Not a complaint, but when we came to pay the owner was away and the person running place gave us a bill which was about 30% of what it should have been! Wrote out a correct bill for him and paid that, owner could lose a lot of money with dishonest customers if this occurs regularly. No food after 4 on a Sunday evening - we arrived at 6 after a 4 hour journey. Batteries in TV remote were dead and there were some clothes in some of the drawes from a previous occupant.The room wasn't en-suite and the bathroom was dirty, poorly equipped and had unfinished re-wiring work exposed. ...However, the pub is really really rough, in the middle of a massive council estate, which may put some people off, and there was no indication of this on the website.The fact that the Fire door by my room was propped open by a fire extinguisher. The room was nice, but was above the "sports bar", which had loud music playing until midnight, not great in the middle of the week when you have an ealy start the next day!!. No hangers in wardrobe. No telephone in room. No room service. The mattress on the bed was awful. Lumpy, thin and just not good enough. Surprised to have large bathroom with nice bath, but no shower. Sound insulation from bar below and rooms next door almost non existent.
