  We were extremely impressed with the quality of the customer service provided to us by each and every hotel employee. In particular, Mr. Simon Finch, the lead concierge, was immensely friendly and helpful with every aspect of our stay. He is both a very skilled - Staff can speak good English Were pleasantly surprised when greeted by ladies in pink kimonos We only had one afternoon to spend from 2.00 pm onwards so it was great that it was so close to the Nijo Castle, then we walked down Nishiki Market near Shijo Dori. There is a nice little ramen restaurant in the corner of the street opposite Nijo Castle which we liked as they even have English menu.

  Staff were friendly and we tried to tip the valet, but she refused our money and later we were advised by Japanese friends that this is customary as hotel already charges tax. It was very honest of her.   We had a very japanise style room. Very luxurious with privated garden. The bathroom was a dream. May be the best I´ve ever been. I can highly recommend it if you want a relaxing and typical japanise experience. A true ryokan.
