  We booked this hostel because it was the cheapest we could find and didn't really expect much. BUT this was our best stay so far, Louis is extremely friendly and helpful, we felt at home at his hostel and if we didn't have a flight to Belem, we would have stayed longer. The rooms are basic, it's a hostel for travelers, not a hotel, but clean and cosy. W - Great hostel with a very civilized atmosphere and very helpful staff. Some only speak portugese, but they try everything to help you. Louis, the owner, is a great guy, very knowledgable, speaks many languages and goes out of his way to make your stay in Rio the best possible. Depending on what is on, he might take you to a club or spend a sunday at the beach with the whole hostel.   New Hostel only opened 5 months before so facilities are pristine condition. Stylish design, Staff wear casual but 'branded' tops. This is a classy joint in the 'cultural' area, don't be fooled by the aged outside appearance..the inside is superb. I also participated in the two free bbq nights during my stay and on two nights the guests were given... wat mensen zeggen » 2 hr 'happy hours' with free caiphirinia's ...awesome! Great atmosphere, pool table, internet, sundeck, library..The best Hostel I've ever stayed in - Supercool hostel with really nice staff. We were two people staying there for 9 nights. We met awesome people and had a really great time. May be the best location you could get during the carnival! Easy to get to Copacabana and Ipanema Beach. The design there is also really cool! We really liked that it has pool table, bar, kitchen, barbeque area and always free toilets and showers. We´re def. Going back!

  The theme of Refúgio is rustic and tasteful. I love this area of Rio and was pleased to learn that a budget-friendly, clean, comfortable and modern hostel has opened here! The staff are simply fantastic and made every possible effort for all the guests during my stay.
