  Yumoto Fujiya Hotel wasn't super cheap, but very conveniently located, minutes from Hakone-Yumoto where you will have to change trains no matter what. It's a good place to arrive the previous night to have an easier start the next morning. The room, although not very cheap, was super spacious and comfortable. Breakfast: It's not cheap $20/pp, but you get a choice of mixed buffer (western + japanese) or a Japanese restaurant. AC: worked great - Excellent location very close to the train station but very quite and relaxing. We were traveling around east Japan and this was the most expensive and poshest place we stayed but it was well worth it. Staff were great. It was clean, spacious and very comfortable. According to my companion the Onsen was perfect. I chose to get a shower with the dazzling array of toiletries provided. As well as an excellent base for exploring Hakone we took a day trip to Tokyo which took under 2 hours by train.

  La gentillesse du personnel - it was my first time to Japan and this was a grat experience as very typical and not western - slipers, tatami mats, paper walls, really cute. The best of all - private onsen. - The Ryokan was very typical, and the hot springs were very relaxing. The owner had poor English but was very helpful

It was a little expensive but for the experience & a one-time splurge, it's well worth the money.
