  Staff at this accommodation is so helpful and kind. It is hard to find at first. The taxi we took from the airport (170rmb which was scam) can not find the place he had to call the hotel and drop us at one of the entrance. There are two entrances. Although it is not located in the city center, it's 10 minutes walk from mtr station (dongimen), than it takes about 4 stops to the Tiananmen square. The apartment is clean and big,

  We stayed in Beijing at Xiao Yuan Alley Courtyard Hotel for 3 nights. It is lovely small hotel in Chinese style. It is very friendly, pleasant, comfortable and cute! It is situated in an old Beijing district Hutong, which is probably the only bastion of traditional Chinese climate left. The taxi from the airport to the hotel cost us 70 yuans (according to a taximet - Featuring charming, ultra-helpful English-speaking staff; the Xiao Yuan Alley hotel provides comfortable beds and good facilities, with a superbly located downtown hutong (Beijing alley) location, sensibly priced organized tours (if you wish) and excellent and very reasonably priced food available inside and nearby outside the hotel. And it's a very affordable place. I very much want to stay at this hotel again. I get happy just thinking about it. Highly recommend.

We also rented bicycles at the hotel, which made it very easy to visit the sights in Beijing.   Really like the place, real Beijing feel. - By its very nature I was immersed in the Hutong and saw how those people live on a daily basis. For one week I got to feel like a real Beijinger living in the Hutong (albeit a fancy Hutong) and see the culture in a way that is impossible for a tour group staying in a fancy hotel.
