  Better than the Belvedere! I visit NY all the time and usually stay in 4 star hotels, sometimes 5. I was a little worried about the Gem, but decided I should try it out. Best decision I made. The place is a gem.   Everything! We especially loved the bunk room set up! We traveled with two parents and two adult boys 18 & 20. We all wanted to stay in the same room but a typical 2 double bed set up in most hotels would not have worked and having two rooms in a typical hotel would have meant us being apart and would have extremely expensive.   This was a fantastic hotel for a nyc break. 10 minutes from time square and just down the road from Hell's Kitchen Flea Market at the weekend (a must visit).
