The room, the hotel and the staff were excellent. It wasn't 'posh' but it was comfortable and we felt like it was a home from home, the breakfast was excellent. We go to York quite often and will certainly use the Saxon Hotel for future visits. The very relaxed atmosphere and the freindliness of the staff. The food was particularly good. Being such a short walk from the City Centre.

The room was just what you need for a weekend break - cosy, comfy and warm (we were there in November!). It was a very manageable 10 minute walk from town with a great curry house only a few mins walk away where we are on the Saturday night. Nice and quiet in the room even though the hotel was practically full. Off road parking was useful too. the stay in the saxon house was comfortable and clean, the staff where excellent and friendly, food was good, however the pictures on your site give a different impression of the room we stayed in.I stayed here recently on business for 1 night. I found the hotel to be clean, well located with very competent staff. Free wi-fi, free car parking and a very nice breakfast made for a very pleasant stay. very nice room and breakfast room. The staff were very friendly and welcomed us even with our late evening arrival. Breakfast very efficient and staff helpful about local area, activities and parking. Very friendly and helpful staff. Accommodation comfortable and cosy recently refurbished bedroom. Standard of breakfast and service was first class.The Saxon house is ideally located to explore York. the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The only nice thing about the hotel was the biscuits they put out each day.nothing It was dirty the bedding was old and worn and the bathroom toilet made noises all night as it wasn't plumed to the mains this was supposed to be the best room with the four poster bed I bought bedding to put on the bed as what was on was unclean and worn. there were hairs in the bed. They struggled a bit on the second day with breakfast as there were so many people in the hotel.bathroom a bit cold but generally ok. At time of visit Saxon House was undergoing refurbishment which would probably give a first impression as not being up to standard but once you understood this position and the refurbishments are complete this hotel would be an attractive and very comfortable place to stay.on shower over bed was difficult to use as it sprayed all over the place. the bathroom was quite small. Shortage of staff. unwiped sauce bottles on table but very obliging people eg. adjusting breakfasts to suit. I felt that the hotel could have been maintained better, eg dripping shower, extract fan not working, bathroom clean but a bit scruffy. Parking is very limited and this could be an issue during summer months.No I-pod dock in the room as stated on the description. Very poor quality full english breakfast. Mascara on the duvet cover. Good have been a little warmer in the room. The bed!. the pillows are old and made of concrete! new pillows needed. ASDA has two for a fiver ;). Old blankets; maybe moving into duvets would be suitable. where was the satellite TV advertised? only terrestrial channels we saw. but all in all, just little things, nothing that would spoil a lovely stay. but definitely, they need new pillow!. No lift. Breakfast served for very short time - 8am to 9am. Also when we came in, we were suppossed to check in at 1pm, although rooms were still not finished even around 5pm.staff is not friendly and he told me don't tell others i booked the room by booking.com. Twin room had been recently decorated, but bathroom could have been cleaner. Also we had a double room but decor was horrid, very little room at foot of bed to get around and bathroom you could barely swing a mouse never mind a cat! TV's in both rooms were not plasma, and although freeview on the one in the double room signal very poor could only access 2 at one point.Could do with a lick of paint. Noisy on the front from the road buthotel accross the road did not have double glazing like saxon house didthank god. Careworn in places, mould on shower room ceiling, shaver light didn't work, wires exposed on kettle lead, claustrophobic accomodation, parking was a bit desperate.The bedroom window vibrated during the night due to draughts. The bathroom needed a makeover. could do with a thorough clean and upgrade (family room). poor,tired bathroom, mould on tiles. tv didn't work well. Shabby hotel. needs major refurbishment. En suite bathroom smelly, antiquated. Cheap but you always get what you pay for. Shortage of staff.The room we were allocated was not as advertised by you. The room was grim, dirty nets, holes in the bedclothes, dingy smell. Don't go here goto Acres Dene two doors away and a world apart.bed to hard road noise we were at the front of the hotel breakfast only average. neither modern room or possessing a plasma tv. Dirty cups. Dirty bedding. was advertised as having en-suite bathroom it was an en-suite shower room. There was a dirty mark splashed up the radiator that no one had bothered to clean. The ceiling leaked when the shower was used in the room above and from the crack in the ceiling where the water came through it had clearly been doing it for a while.all of it from the dirty looking person that opened the door to us to the worn out carpets and dirty bottle tops of the sauce bottles at breakfast the bathroom floor was dirty and the fittings didn't fit there was holes the pillow cases the bath side didn't fit there was a gaping hole under the bath the tiles in the shower part were very dirty and moldy the hotel need a clean and a new carpet.
