Teak Garden Resort - Chiang Khong.
From the road this hotel looks basic, however when inside it is very nice. Set in lovely gardens, the rooms are modern and very clean and well appointed. We dined in their restaurant overlooking the Mekong River. It was a beautiful setting. Dinner was also accompanied by a small group playing lovely Lao music.

100 metres to the Thai immigration office. You cant get much closer.
If you are not after 5 star, just a convenient bed and shower, you can't go past "Portside"
There is plenty of cafe's and restaurants just down the road as well. -
