Family-run B&B Il Duomo is just around the corner from the Cathedral and 500 metres from the Lucca Train Station via the underpass. The classic-style rooms feature free Wi-Fi. A welcome package with a bottle of wine and snacks is offered upon arrival. Air-conditioned rooms at Il Duomo include a flat-screen TV and some overlook the cathedral or Piazza San Giovanni. The varied breakfast includes cakes, hot drinks, as well as cheese, ham and eggs, and is served in a breakfast room with views of the cathedral. Set on the second floor of a 19th-century building, this bed and breakfast is 250 metres from the Ducal Palace and a 5-minute walk from the Guinigi Tower. A few steps away there is Lucca's main shopping street.

Laura and Fabio could not have been more helpful. I had to book Il Duomo for my mother who had a bad fall on the Tour prior to coming to Lucca. I needed a place with a lift and a walk in shower and it turned out to be the perfect choice. There was a step down from the shower, but it was spacious and non slip. The B&B is so clean and peaceful and in a tranquil part of the city, a very pleasant and short walk to the main shopping precinct of Via Fillungo.

Rooms were spacious, comfortable and surprisingly quiet for a city. Linens, towels and toiletries were of good quality. Breakfast was continental buffet with the nice touch of fresh warm croissants and toast brought to table. This is a beautiful and well-run hotel that I would recommend. The room was huge and furnished with tasteful antiques and the bath is modern and luxurious. I loved the tiles and ceiling and overlooking the Piazza. Very central yet near train station using the underpass opposite the station. Fantastic wifi too! Amenities are complete and the staff helped with our heavy luggage up the first floor to the lift too. Would stay here again! Thank God for the a/c which kept the heat wave and insects out. Fabio and his mother were super friendly and helpful. Fabio even helped out to park our car and prepared our breakfast early on the Sunday because we had leave very early. The B&B is very calm and has a perfect location inside Lucca. Upon arrival we received a bottle of Prosecco that we later enjoyed on the private apartment terrass overlooking the roof's of Lucca in the sunset. Laura was really friendly and helpful, couldn't do enough for us. Her son was really excellent too, walking to our car with me so he could show me where their free parking was. This is a little out of the city, but less than 1km walking and saves parking charges. Centrally located for the City, clean and tidy, large room with nice shower room, plenty of choice for breakfast. Excellent location and owners were very friendly and helpful. Suite was spotless and very well appointed!! Breakfast was good and the suite was very quiet! Before we arrived we were emailed instructions on arrival, unloading suitcases and off site (outside the walls) parking. All worked well!! Gps helped a lot--can't imagine without!. Professional and friendly service. Fabio met us at the railway station and helped us with our luggage. Comfortable and big rooms with a delicious breakfast and catered for my special dietary needs (gluten free). Fabio and his mother, Laura were excellent hosts. Perfect location and could walk to all of the main attractions. Room was gorgeous (Fabrics were elegant). Location was the very best. You will need a taxi to hotel and you may have to wait. Fabio and Seona Laura were most welcoming and accommodating. It is very secure as you must go through 3 series of locked doors. Stop by Tourist office to get information. The one thing that was not that clear initially, was that although there is a lift, reliable and not too small, it only commenced from the first floor, not the ground floor. All good!. Nothing. Our room overlooked a courtyard where the neighbours were noisy the first afternoon. Didn't prevent us sleeping though. Nothing, all as it should be!!. The bed was two beds pushed together to make a queen. Nothing. Nothing. Parking was not permitted within the town. It was not a problem as there was cheap secure parking at the station less than 10 minutes walk, but this should be made clear. Town maps poorly identified the location. As always what you get and how you feel about it it will depend on price and this accomodation is not cheap. No lift until the first floor will upset some people. Parking was really far away. It was free, but about a 3k drive and then 1-1.5k walk back to the city walls. Also, the room was smoky. I'm under the impression there aren't any "non-smoking" rooms... I had not realised I would have to pay cash which meant I had to pay more to get extra out from a cash point. We loved it all no complaints. Entrance a little off putting & initial stairs steep. Wi-Fi was erratic. It was a surprise to see a sign on the desk stating they do not accept credit cards. That caused a bit of a panic since my ccard doesn't always work to get large amounts of money from the atm. Confronted by stone steps when arrived - it was all worth while and probably par for the course as this was a medieval city, but could be very off-putting for elderly and infirm guests. Nothing to dislike. Nothing. Missing the lift. breakfast is too limited.
